Dan Karpuc: Angels -1.5 at Athletics

The Angels (21-12) are clearly better than the Athletics (14-19) overall, but there are numerous factors on Los Angeles’ side that suggest they’ll cover -1.5 runs in this matchup. First, Oakland has gone 3-11-1 ATS at home this season (and have been the butt of jokes due to the small size of their home crowds). Second, A's starter Daulton Jefferies (1-5, 5.22 ERA) stinks and his lack of strikeout ability should be an issue against Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani and this Angels lineup. Finally, 21-year-old 2021 MLB Draft pick Chase Silseth will make his MLB debut for the Angels after dominating Double-A opponents as a member of the Rocket City Trash Pandas (best minor league name ever?) this season. In 26.0 innings there, he had a 1.73 ERA with a 37.4% strikeout rate. I’m a bit of a MLB prospect nerd and I’m high on him with his proven strikeout ability despite his fast-track to the Majors. For all of those reasons, I expect the Angels to take care of business and win tonight’s game by at least two runs.

Lucy Burdge: Cubs +105 ML at Diamondbacks
The Cubs have won two of their last three games and I think they can get a win in this one against the Diamondbacks. Especially with Drew Smyly on the mound because on the road over the last two years he is 8-0 facing a team slugging .390 or worse, and 10-2 against NL teams with an on-base percentage of .325 or worse. Plus, Torey Lovullo is just 48-74 in May games while coaching Arizona. With all of these trends in mind, I really like the Cubs to get the win here over the Diamondbacks on the road.

Brad Pinkerton: Yankees-White Sox Over 7.5

Maybe it's the weather warming up, "new new" baseballs or just hitters catching up to pitchers, but unders haven't been as en vogue lately. The Yankees are a prime example after scoring 15 runs against the White Sox last night and 26 in their last three games. Meanwhile, the White Sox, who scored seven last night, have now scored at least three runs in 11 straight games. If odds makers are going to keep giving me totals of 7.5-8 on the Yankees, I'm going to keep betting the over.
