Even on the road, the Rockies have a strong YRFI record. They also have Kyle Freeland starting on Friday. Despite pitching better lately and avoiding first-inning trouble, Freeland has a 6.00 first-inning ERA. It’s also worth noting that the lefty has a 9.38 ERA on the road this season, so not pitching at Coors Field is actually working against Freeland and the Rockies in this game. He also has subpar career numbers against several members of the Giants, giving San Francisco a chance to score an early run in this game despite a poor track record in that area this season.

On the other side, Kyle Harrison will have to keep the Rockies off the board in the first inning. He’s been solid if unspectacular early in games, posting a 4.76 ERA in the first inning of his 17 starts. In fairness, Harrison tossed five scoreless innings against the Rockies last Friday, yielding just one hit. But facing the same lineup for a second straight start doesn’t usually favor pitchers. That should open the door to the Rockies scoring an early run, especially with Ezequiel Tovar in the middle of everything.
