Mets at Braves YRFI (-135, BetMGM)

YRFI is always in play when the Atlanta Braves offense is involved, as they are absolutely smashing baseballs this season at a crazy rate. Today, they will take on the New York Mets and LHP David Peterson, who has been quite bad with a 5.05 xERA. The Braves are ranked No. 1 in baseball with a whopping 136 wRC+ vs. left-handed pitching. I think they certainly have a great chance to smack him around early and score in the first.

Meanwhile, RHP Allan Winans is starting his third game for the Braves today. He's only thrown 11.1 innings but has been pretty sharp. New York is ranked 10th in MLB with a 105 wRC+ as a lineup vs. righties, so while I'm not as high on this overall matchup, they still have a good shot at scoring early.

Rangers at Diamondbacks YRFI (-120, BetMGM)

The second and final YRFI that I like today resides in Arizona, where the always-lethal Texas Rangers will be traveling to take on the D-Backs. Rangers LHP Jordan Montgomery gets the start and, while he hasn't been bad, he was miserable the last time he faced Arizona. He went just four innings and allowed seven runs, so clearly, Arizona has the ability to get to him.

Where we really have a good shot at hitting this is with the Rangers' offense. RHP Slade Cicconi is getting the ball for the D-Backs tonight, and he owns a massive 5.95 xERA and 5.56 xFIP in his short 10.1 innings of work. Texas is the third-ranked offense in baseball with a 117 wRC+ vs. right-handed pitching, and this is a really plus-matchup for them.

What is a YRFI bet?

In baseball, a "Yes Run First Inning" (YRFI) bet is the opposite of a "No Run First Inning" (NRFI) bet. It means you are predicting that at least one run will be scored by either team during the first inning of a game.

When placing a Yes Run First Inning bet, your wager is successful if any team scores a run in the opening inning of the game. It doesn't matter which team scores or how many runs are scored; as long as there is at least one run scored by either team, your bet will be considered a win.

This type of bet focuses solely on the first inning of the game, disregarding the final outcome or the number of runs scored in later innings. It adds an extra layer of excitement to the early stages of the game and allows you to capitalize on the potential for early scoring.

When considering a Yes Run First Inning bet, some factors to consider include the starting pitchers, the hitting lineups, the historical performance of the teams in the first inning, and any relevant weather conditions. Analyzing these factors can provide insights into the likelihood of runs being scored early in the game.

As with any sports bet, it's essential to check the odds provided by the sportsbook or betting platform where you're placing your wager to understand the potential payout or return if your Yes Run First Inning bet is successful.

How to Bet on YRFI

When considering a Yes Run First Inning bet in baseball, there are several factors you can take into account to help inform your decision:

  1. Starting Pitchers: Evaluate the starting pitchers for both teams. Look at their statistics, recent performances, and their tendency to give up early runs. Consider factors such as their earned run average (ERA), walk rate, and home run rate. If either pitcher has struggled in the early innings or has a tendency to give up runs, it increases the likelihood of a run being scored in the first inning.
  2. Hitting Lineups: Assess the hitting lineups of both teams. Look for teams with strong hitters who have a history of quick starts and generating early offense. Consider their on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and batting average. Teams with power hitters who can get on base and drive in runs early in the game are more likely to contribute to a run being scored in the first inning.
  3. Head-to-Head Matchup: Review the historical data between the two teams facing each other. Look for patterns or trends regarding early scoring in their previous matchups. If the teams have consistently scored runs in the first inning when they face each other, it increases the likelihood of a run being scored again.
  4. Weather Conditions: Take into account the weather conditions for the game. Factors such as wind speed, temperature, and humidity can influence the behavior of the ball and the performance of the pitchers. Weather conditions that are favorable for hitting, such as warmer temperatures or wind blowing out, can increase the likelihood of a run being scored in the first inning.

It's important to conduct thorough research, analyze the relevant information, and consider multiple factors before making your decision. Additionally, stay informed about any last-minute lineup changes, injuries, or other relevant news that could affect the outcome of the first inning. Lastly, check the odds provided by the sportsbook or betting platform to understand the potential payout or return if your Yes Run First Inning bet is successful.
