Juan Soto, Yankees (+600 across the board)

I think a lot of people forgot how good Soto really is because of the disappointing season the Padres had in 2023. Even through the Padres' struggles, Soto continued to be a top-10 player with a 155 wRC+, which was good for the eighth-highest mark in MLB. He had 35 home runs, 109 RBIs and a very impressive 5.5 WAR.

The Yankees literally signed one of the very best players in the league to their roster, and I don't think people understand just how good he really is. The 1-2 punch of Soto and Aaron Judge is going to be lethal in 2024.

Yandy Diaz, Rays (+6500, FanDuel)

I can't believe we are getting 65/1 odds on Diaz, who was simply sensational in 2023. He owned a 164 wRC+ last season, which was the fifth-best number in baseball. That is a higher wRC+ than Freddie Freeman, Matt Olson and Juan Soto. Yet, all of those guys have better odds to win the MVP award than Diaz. I think that he will have an easier time winning MVP now with no Ohtani in the AL.

Diaz hit .330 with 22 homers and 78 RBIs last year, but what hurt him was his 4.7 WAR. That obviously is a great number, but not anywhere near the likes of other MVP winners. Still, I think 65/1 is crazy value for a guy who put up a 164 wRC+.

Best Bets To Win NL MVP

Shohei Ohtani, Dodgers (+950, FanDuel)

Only one man had a higher wRC+ than reigning NL MVP Ronald Acuna Jr. last season, and that was the Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani, who is simply a once-in-a-generation talent that now finds himself on a much better team than the Angels.

Ohtani had a ridiculous 180 wRC+ last season, which led all of baseball, to go along with .428 xwOBA and 6.6 WAR. He smashed 44 homers and hit .304 on the season. Simply put, it's crazy that Ohtani isn't the favorite to win NL MVP.

Mookie Betts, Dodgers (+700, Caesars)

Betts is actually favored over his teammate Ohtani at most books, and even though I think Ohtani is better, it really is not by very much. He didn't get a ton of attention last season, but he was a top-five player in MLB, and continues to be one of the best offensive players in the game.

Betts compiled 39 homers and 107 RBIs last season, to go along with his unreal 167 wRC+. He was tied with Acuna Jr. leading the league with an 8.3 WAR. There is no reason to think that he can't perform at that same MVP level that he has played for years now, so I think we are getting some great odds here.
