NBA Money Line betting is the simplest and a popular form of NBA betting. With NBA money line betting you are simply picking which team will outright win the game. NBA Money Line odds will list the the favorite in a given game as a negative number (ie. -200) that means you will have to bet that amount to win $100. Money line odds list the underdog as a positive number (i.e. +500) that means you will win that amount on a $100 bet. An NBA money line bet can not “push” because NBA games can not end in a tie. If you think you have mastered moneyline betting check out our NBA spreads and start betting against the spread! .
An example of a game that would likely have a tight money line difference would be a game between the Orlando Magic and the Atlanta Hawks played in Atlanta. In this case the Hawks would likely be small favorite around -120. An example of a game that would have a large money line difference would be a game between the Orlando Magic and the Golden State Warriors played in Oakland. In this case the Warriors would likely be -1,000 money line favorites or higher.
NBA Moneyline Example:
The New York Knicks are taking on the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclays Center and the Nets are favored to win. The Knicks odds are listed as (+400) while the Nets are (-250) this means if you bet $100 on the Knicks moneyline and they somehow win the game you win and cash your ticket and you win $400. If you bet $100 on the Nets moneyline and they win the game you would cash a ticket for $40. The easier way to figure out the favorite team’s odds payout is to do the inverse. If the Nets are (-250) you would need to bet $250 to win $100 on a moneyline bet.
The odds for an NBA money line bet typically range from -110, which would be considered a small favorite all the way up to -1200 which would be considered a massive favorite in basketball betting. It can be difficult to find value on NBA money line bets because a majority of bettors know who is going to win and the sportsbooks wouldn’t be making money. That is why money line betting is not as popular as betting against the spread, because the value is so much lower. For that reason many bettors like to parlay multiple money line bets together to help improve their odds which increases the payout of their bet. Check out our NBA expert picks for tonight and see if parlaying a few will win you a bet! With BetQL you can expect to always see the most updated NBA moneyline odds. We work closely with the sportsbook to ensure that any changes to the odds, spread, or line will be reflected on our site. Using BetQL you can build custom sports betting dashboards that allow you to focus specifically on finding value for NBA moneyline bets. You can add and remove data to build a dashboard that leads you to winners every day. The Best Moneyline NBA Picks for the 2021 Season
Betting on moneylines in the NBA isn’t exactly hard but the hard part is finding value in the moneyline odds. The bookmakers know which team is most likely to win the game and they move the odds so you have to wager a high amount to win a small amount. It isn’t exactly the most fun way to bet on the NBA, but it can ensure you turn a profit if you have enough of a bankroll to cover it. We wanted to take a look at the “best” moneyline picks for this season and by best we mean most value. We wanted to identify teams that have fair moneyline odds to win the game and highlight that you may be able to tail them into the playoffs.
It may catch you as a bit of a surprise but the Portland Trailblazers are one of the best teams in the NBA to bet on the moneyline. On the season the Blazers are 37-29 which is a 56% winning percentage, which means you have a fairly good chance of the Blazers coming away with the win on the moneyline if you bet them. Where the value comes from is the Blazers often don’t have insanely high moneyline odds. Another great indicator for a good moneyline pick is how they play when they are the underdog against the spread, when we look at that for the Blazers they are 14-19 straight up as the underdog, so you know they have a few upsets in them. As we get closer to the playoffs you know you can count on Dame Lillard in crunch time, so even if this team is the underdog don’t be afraid to place a wager on them. The Blazers are also one of the best teams at blowing out lower level opponents, when the Blazers are the favorite they are 25-12 straight up. You may have to lay down a bit more juice to bet the Blazers when they are the favorite, but they come through and win basketball games. Keep your eye out for the Blazers as we get closer to the playoffs and don’t be nervous to bet them on the moneyline because it’s Dame Time!
The Mavericks have had their ups and downs this season but currently they are riding high sitting 5th in the Western Conference standings. With a 37-28 record the Mavericks have a 56.9% winning percentage and similar to the Blazers they have a good shot at winning any game straight up. When we look at the Mavs underdog record it shows 9-12 on the season straight up as the underdog, which isn’t amazing but shows the Mavericks have the ability to beat teams ahead of them in the standings. When you have Lika Doncic on your team you really have a shot at beating any team, on any night. Where you may be wary of betting the Mavericks on the moneyline is when they are the favorite because the Mavs record straight up record when they are the favorite is 26-16. Although that isn’t negative at all the 16 losses when they are listed as the favorite shows that you may lose a good bit of money if you are wagering a ton for the Mavs to blow out a bad team. Either way as we get closer to the playoffs keep your eyes on the Mavericks moneyline odds because they can be a high value bet to beat a better team.
The Celtics are a team that are under performing with a big spotlight on them this season, but their woes may actually work out for value bettors. The Celtics have been wildly inconsistent all year so it has been tough to make a profit betting them, but since the bookmakers have started adjusting their lines it actually has become valuable to bet them as the underdog. More recently the Celtics started to string wins together and it actually looked like they were making a real playoff push, but that is still to be determined. Where the Celtics really started to do well was the end of March and throughout April as the underdog, where they were able to win five games in a row as the underdog. Since that point the Celtics have fallen back into some bad habits and have lost a few very winnable games.
We don’t really recommend betting the Celtics on a regular basis because you never know which version of this team will come out of the tunnel, but on a few rare occasions you can cash in on them as a moneyline underdog. The oddsmakers have finally started to adjust their lines for the Celtics, but their schedule is fairly soft as we finish off the regular season. As we are writing this the Celtics are 7th in the Eastern Conference and it looks like they may finish the season in the play in tournament. In the play in tournament the Celtics look like they would be a heavy favorite, so we would recommend staying away, but if they are able to make it into the legit playoffs there could be a lot of moneyline value on a Celtics team playing a #1 or #2 seed at home.
