  • Bowling Green pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the 2021 season so far with a 14-10 shocking win over Minnesota on Saturday.

  • The Falcons entered the game as 31-point underdogs and hadn't won a game against an FCS opponent since beating Akron on Nov. 2, 2019.

  • It's been quite a while, but Bowling Green did it as +2500 underdogs.

Bowling Green Shocks The World

The Falcons had just 194 yards of total offense, but they held Minnesota to a pathetic 59 yards passing and 182 yards rushing on 42 attempts. The Gophers threw the ball just 13 times, despite how poorly they were performing on the ground. Treyson Potts had 28 carries for 141 yards while the rest of the team combined for 17 carries and 41 yards.

The win snapped a 10-game losing streak to FBS teams for Bowling Green since that Akron win back in 2019. During that losing streak, the Falcons were as bad as it gets. Just one of the losses in that span was by fewer than 10 points, and that came just two weeks ago in a 22-19 defeat to South Alabama. The other nine losses came with an average margin of defeat of 36.1 points.

If you would have placed a pregame bet on Bowling Green to win outright, you would have won $250 on a $10 wager. Let us be honest with each other though. Who actually bet on Bowling Green? If you did, tweet at us @betqlapp on Twitter, or me @MattHtheParagon, with your winning ticket!

Minnesota Stinks Again

This horrid loss comes after the Gophers decimated Colorado on the road in Week 3. That win looked like it might jumpstart their season after an uninspiring five-point win over Miami (Ohio) in Week 2. Instead we got this mess.

QB Tanner Morgan looked atrocious when he actually did throw the ball, getting picked off twice inside the final three minutes. Minnesota now has games against Purdue, Nebraska and Maryland coming up. With the way they played against a bad Bowling Green team on Saturday, I wouldn't put it past them to take more losses in the near future. The castle seems to be crumbling after that magical year of a few seasons ago.
