Well, it didn’t take long for Lincoln Riley to make a statement with his new program. After taking down Rice 66-14 in Week 1, the Trojans beat Stanford 41-28 on the road in Week 2 and then defeated Fresno State 45-17 in Week 3. Quarterback Caleb Williams is playing at a Heisman Trophy level so far and even though this game will take place at Oregon State, who is also 3-0, USC has a clear edge. OSU beat Boise State (34-17) in Week 1, Fresno State (35-32) in Week 2 and Montana State (68-28) in Week 3, but should have an issue dealing with the Trojans’ star-studded offense. I expect this spread to approach double digits as the week rolls on.
Speaking of notable coaches in new places, Brent Venables has this Oklahoma program clicking after Riley moved on to the glitz and glam of LA. The Sooners beat UTEP 45-13 in Week 1, Kent State 33-3 in Week 2 and then Nebraska 49-14 on the road in Week 3. Interestingly, former Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez will be under center for Kansas State, who just got upset at home against Tulane (17-10) in Week 3 after beating South Dakota (34-0) and Missouri (40-12) to open the year. I expect early sharp money on the Sooners which should drive this line towards +/- 20 as the week progresses.
Sharps like our own Brian “The Prodigy” Hunt constantly pick on Akron. The Zips have started the year 0-3 ATS and have now gone 8-25 ATS dating back to the start of the 2019 season. Liberty just lost 37-36 to then-21st ranked Wake Forest in Week 3 and clearly have some talent under coach Hugh Freeze. Expect this to approach +/- 30 in the coming days.
