2022 Notre Dame Football Recap

The departure of long-time head coach Brian Kelly at the end of the 2021 season sparked outrage from a lot of Notre Dame fans, feeling as though Kelly abandoned them. In reality, he was just chasing that bag full of SEC money.

With his exit, the Marcus Freeman era began with a loss to Oklahoma State in their bowl game that year. 2022 started off pretty rocky as well, with early embarrassing losses to Marshall and Stanford as huge favorites at home that had fans calling for Freeman's job before he could even move into South Bend. However, they managed to steady the ship as the season progressed, winning eight of their last 10 games to finish 9-4. Along the way, they picked up a notable win over No. 4 Clemson that soiled the Tigers' chances at making the CFP.

They managed to end the year on a high note by defeating the South Carolina Gamecocks 45-38 in the Gator Bowl.

2023 Notre Dame Football Odds & Season Outlook

2023 figures to be a better season than 2022, as Freeman now has a full season under his belt of coaching and recruiting. Not only that, but they will actually have a competent starting QB at the helm in former Wake Forest signal-caller Sam Hartman. Notre Dame also has one of the top recruiting classes in the country coming in, so the future in South Bend looks pretty bright despite the loss of their long-time head coach.

The Fighting Irish are currently sitting at +2800 to win the CFP National Championship, which is good for 11th on the odds board right behind Penn State and just in front of Tennessee.

The schedule for Notre Dame is never easy, no matter what the Twitter folks might tell you. Navy isn't an easy game, as they always play the Irish tough. NC State was good last season, and they should present a challenge on the road. Ohio State will be their toughest task of the year, but luckily they will be at home for that one. Duke and Louisville aren't pushovers, and then they will have to take on vaunted USC and Heisman winner Caleb Williams. Not only that, but they also will take on Pittsburgh and Clemson, two very tough foes. They end their season with games against Wake Forest, who will want revenge against Hartman, and Stanford.

That's brutal.

2023 Notre Dame Football Prediction

Notre Dame has the talent to be able to beat any of the teams on their schedule, but they are in for a gauntlet in 2023. Clemson, USC and Ohio State are about three of the biggest challenges any team could ask for in the country. The rest of their schedule certainly isn't a walk in the park either. It will certainly be tough, and that is why the Irish are 25/1 to win the championship. It's going to be a tough road for them to get there, but they certainly will be battle-tested through the year.
