2022 Alabama Team Recap

Head coach Nick Sagan entered his 16th season with the Crimson Tide in 2022 with the hopes of winning yet another championship. Alabama is college football's ultimate powerhouse, boasting the best roster almost yearly. However, even with a roster as talented as Alabama's is, that doesn't always guarantee success. We saw that last season, as even though they had Heisman winner and superstar QB Bryce Young, the team didn't make the College Football Playoff.

It was a sight that we are simply not used to seeing, as the Tide are almost always at least a part of the playoff. They finished with an 11-2 record but shared the SEC West lead with LSU, as both teams went 6-2 in the conference.

However, LSU made the SEC Championship over the Tide, which buried their chances of making the CFP. Alabama finished ranked No. 5 in the nation, just on the outside looking in at the playoff. They took on Kansas State in the Sugar Bowl and capped off their 2022 campaign with a 45-20 win.

2023 Alabama Odds & Outlook

Listen, you and I both know that the Crimson Tide is going to be good next season. The year after that as well. And probably every season going forward for a long time. That is why they are just behind defending champion Georgia on the odds board to win the CFP Championship at +600. Despite losing star QB Bryce Young and LB Will Anderson to the NFL Draft, they are still projected as the runner-up in next season's championship game. That's because the talent pool is constantly replenished every season with more 5-star talent, so the Tide will likely never be bad. In fact, the backups at Alabama are better than most starters in college football.

Next season, only three offensive starters will return and just four defensive starters will be back. That means we will see almost an entirely new Alabama team next season. The good news for them is that they once again had the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation, as they almost always do, so they are good to go no matter who they lose. The schedule next season isn't super daunting either. They get Texas at home in Tuscaloosa, which certainly helps. They also get LSU and Tennessee at home, as well as Arkansas. Traveling to Auburn won't be easy, as it never is, but they will still be favored. This will be a young team, so it won't be as easy as it has been over the last few years, but they still could go undefeated and I wouldn't be shocked at all.

2023 Alabama Prediction

As mentioned previously, this team will have more talent on it than most teams in college football even with only seven returning starters. That says something about the program, and we know that Alabama is always going to be right there at the end. With the 2023 schedule being so manageable, as they get all of their toughest games at home, I seriously think they can go 12-0 next year and easily make the Playoff.

It mostly will depend on how their new QB performs, whoever that may be when they announce a starter. It will most likely be Jalen Milroe or Cade Carruth, but my guess is Milroe, who took over for Young after he was injured for a few games last season. He won both games he filled in, so that leads me to believe that they will be in fine shape with him behind center.
