While Aaron Nola is a formidable opponent on the hill for the Phillies, this Houston team has been among the best teams in the league all year long, finishing with 106 regular-season wins, and is now undefeated in the playoffs. Unlike the Phillies, they are also well-rounded in all areas of the game, from pitching to hitting to fielding. You can get anywhere from +130 to +150 odds on this outcome right now, which is why I prefer getting the Astros to win by two or more runs compared to their moneyline, which ranges between -170 to -180 right now. This Houston team has a lot to prove given their past and I’m giving them a considerable edge in this series, just like the BetQL Simulation Model.

Lucy Burdge: Astros ML -170
The World Series finally begins tonight and I’m looking at the Astros to sweep. They haven’t lost a game in this postseason and I think they’ll keep that going against the Phillies tonight. It’ll be Justin Verlander vs. Aaron Nola in this one and I have a lot of faith in Verlander to limit the Phillies’ scoring. There are also some trends in Houston's favor to win, like the Astros are 19-4 SU when playing against a team with a winning percentage of 54-62 percent in the second half of this season; 38-12 vs. teams averaging 0.6 or fewer errors per game in the second half of the season; and 72-30 vs. a starting pitcher who gives up 5.5 or fewer hits per start this season. So give me the Astros to get the win here and start the World Series off strong.

Brad Pinkerton: Under 6.5

Between aces Verlander and Nola starting on the mound and two bullpens that have been lights-out in the postseason, runs are going to be scarce Friday night. Oddsmakers are fully aware that more than 61% of Astros games have hit the under this season, most in baseball, and they still can't compensate enough with these small totals as Houston has gone 2-5 O/U in the postseason with totals no higher than 7. Houston is also 33-48 O/U at home, 54-85 as the favorite and 33-45 as the home fav, so there are plenty of signs pointing to another under here in Game 1.
