Some heavy hands are on the horizon as UFC Vegas 70 goes down on Feb. 25 at 4 p.m. ET! Before Jon Jones makes his long-awaited return to the octagon next week at UFC 285, light heavyweights throw down this weekend in the main event. No. 6 Nikita Krylov takes on No. 8 Ryan Spann in a wide -pen LHW division matchup. Before the main event, Tatiana Suarez finally returns after a three-year layoff. A very exciting night of fights with lots of future implications at play, so let’s talk about some of the best bets for UFC Vegas 70 on ESPN+ (odds accurate as of Feb. 24 on BetMGM).
Suarez (-800) vs. De La Rosa (+550), 7:30 p.m. ET
After a long injury recovery, the hottest prospect in WMMA Tatiana Suarez finally makes her return to the octagon this weekend where she takes on Montana De La Rosa! Tatiana is one of the most talented females on the UFC roster. She has never lost a fight and presents some of the best wrestling and ground & pound in the entire sport. De La Rosa has pretty weak takedown defense which will certainly be tested in this fight. Suarez is better in every aspect of MMA than De La Rosa. A total mismatch, Tatiana will look every bit as good as a -800 favorite should look, finding herself back in the title picture in a dominant way.
BEST BET: Tatiana Suarez parlayed w/A. Muniz @ -160

Mayes (+110) vs. Sakai (-135), 8 p.m. ET
The odds in this fight are way off. Don’Tale Mayes is 2-0-1 in his last three fights and has looked more impressive each time out. Augusto Sakai is not only on a four-fight losing streak, but each loss has been by KO/TKO. Out of Mayes’s nine career wins, five have come by way of KO/TKO. The durability, strength, and KO power Mayes presents is going to be too much for Sakai’s chin to handle. At underdog odds, I feel obliged to play Mayes here. A small sprinkle on Mayes by KO/TKO at +200 might be worth a shot too.
BEST BET: Don’Tale Mayes @ +110

Muniz (-225) vs. Allen (+185), 8:30 p.m. ET
Andre Muniz is the perfect piece to cash our parlay. He goes up against Brendan Allen and is a total mismatch for him. Muniz is undefeated in the UFC and is riding a nine-fight win streak. He has five submission wins with the UFC and has wins over massive opponents such as Uriah Hall & Eryk Anders. Not only is Muniz’s grappling extremely dangerous, but he also has very crisp striking with KO power in his hands. Muniz has developed into a very well rounded martial artist and is only one or two wins away from being in the title picture.
Brendan Allen is really just a downgraded version of Muniz. Allen has some sloppy striking and a chin that has been cracked even by the likes of Sam Alvey. He has decent grappling, except he relies too heavily on his bottom guard game which Andre Muniz will expose in a heartbeat. I expect Allen to be cracked with a punch early, forcing him to panic wrestle which will lead to Muniz winning by a submission. That being said, I don’t hate a play on Muniz by submission at +125, but I feel more comfortable he cashes in as the second leg of our parlay!
BEST BET: Andre Muniz parlayed w/T. Suarez @ -160
Spann (+145) vs. Krylov (-175), 9 p.m.
MAIN EVENT TIME! Ryan “Superman” Spann takes on Nikita Krylov in a fight that will almost certainly end in a finish. Spann has greatly improved since joining Fortis MMA down in Dallas, TX. He is on a two-fight winning streak and brutally KO’d Dom Reyes in his last fight at UFC 281. Spann has always had the power in his punches, but Fortis helped give him a well-rounded and technical game. I have always underestimated Spann, but I truly believe he has turned his career into one of a title contender.
Nikita Krylov is certainly a dangerous opponent. It’s no secret that he is gunning for a KO, and at 205lbs, it’s very possible. The problem with Krylov is his stance & striking style. He has a karate stance, keeping his hands very low and moving in and out of distance very quickly. This newer, more technical, version of Spann is built to pick people apart who fight like Krylov does. Spann has a clear wrestling advantage in this fight; if he can keep it technical and sound on the feet, there will be nowhere for Krylov to go in this fight except facedown on the canvas. Spann by KO/TKO at +275 could be worth a small play too.
BEST BET: Ryan Spann @ +145
