College Football Win Totals: Tennessee Division-I Programs

How do Tennessee schools stack up in 2023?

College football win totals for the 2022 season have arrived! This means that we can now bet the over/under on how many wins a certain program will have next year, which is always a fun bet to make. Today we're taking a look at the Division-I programs in the state of Tennessee to find out what might be the best bet. It will be interesting to see where their win totals sit and examine why they might go over or under.

We have already looked at the Akron ZipsVanderbilt Commodores, Illinois and Michigan schools, as well as Virginia and Iowa programs. We'll continue to look at different schools and states to see where the value lies in the win total projections.

Memphis Tigers, AAC - O/U 7.5

The Tigers are a team that should be very good with the talent that they have at their disposal next season, but they are also a team that disappointed last season and should be viewed with caution. Everything looked like it was rolling along with a 3-0 start to the 2021 season and a very nice win over Mississippi State, and then the team fell apart completely down the stretch, going just 3-6 the rest of the way. This is a team that has far too much talent to be this bad, and they should be better in 2022, but there are some tough games on the schedule.

Games against UCF and Houston are going to be extremely challenging for them to overcome, but at the very least, they have them at home. The Tigers lucked out in not having to play Cincinnati this year, so that is a real positive for them in terms of getting to the over. Games at Navy, at East Carolina, at Tulane, Tulsa, and at SMU should net wins, but they could stumble once or twice in that foray. This team is certainly getting to six wins, or at least, they should. The question will be if they can reach eight, which would be a massive bounce back year.

With all the talent and experience they have, it really shouldn't be out of the question that they reach the AAC title game and hit the over here. And that is what I'm rolling with.

Pick: Over 7.5

Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, C-USA - O/U 5.5

First off, I will certainly be staying away from this line simply because I think there are way too many uncertainties with this schedule that Middle Tennessee has. There won’t be fewer than four losses for them, but there won’t be fewer than four wins either. A lot of the rest of their schedule is toss-up, 50/50 games that could go either way. Examples of this will be UTEP on the road and Charlotte at home, games that could be very close, and the Blue Raiders will have to find a way to pull off the win. They travel to FIU to end the season, which will be another toss up.

My gut feeling is to take the under, but this team could surprise next season. The defense was great last year at forcing turnovers, and they will have to be again in order for Middle Tennessee to have success. The offense has to be more consistent and explosive this season after being pretty dreadful last year. With how tough the schedule is and how unpredictable it could be, I'll stay away or take the under here, which will keep the Blue Raiders out of a bowl game. Sorry guys, tough break.

Pick: Under 5.5

Tennessee Volunteers, SEC - O/U 7.5

Despite all the hype that you might be hearing about Hendon Hooker and the Vols this season, you have to remember that this is still a rebuilding program. Looking at the slate for this team in 2022, it is going to be very difficult, but that is to be expected when you play in the SEC. A record of 7-6 with a bowl game will be disappointing for Tennessee, but getting to eight or nine wins would be considered a terrific season going by the schedule. The Vols need to go 5-0 against the lesser teams like Ball State, Akron, UT Martin, Missouri, and Vanderbilt. They can't afford a slip up there if they want to reach eight.

Pitt, Kentucky, and South Carolina will be challenges for sure, but they are all winnable games that could get them to the eight wins. Do i expect them to win all of these games without a single stumble? No, not at all. Then of course they have Florida, Alabama, and Georgia, all will most likely be losses, but a win against any of them would be absolutely huge.

I'm not sure this is the year the team gets to double-digit wins, but eight is certainly obtainable if they play all of their cards right or pull off an upset somewhere in there. I'll take the over on that chance.

Pick: Over 7.5
