Tampa Bay Rays: 99-67 ATS

A lot of people don't bet the run line in baseball, but it can actually be a pretty profitable way of gambling if you know who to bet on. Last season, it was the Rays who did a remarkable job at covering spreads, as they usually do. They went 99-67 ATS in 2021, the best mark in baseball. Following closely behind them were the Detroit Tigers, who went 96-66 ATS. Detroit is a team that will be much improved going into next year, so keep that in mind with any futures market betting that you may want to get into.

Tampa has been a cash cow for many over the last several years because with the payroll they have, they should be underdogs in a vast majority of their games. And they have been underdogs in quite a lot of their games, which has payed out large when they start winning like they have over the last few seasons. Once again, their payroll will be less than what the Dodgers will pay Mookie Betts, but the Rays will be World Series contenders.

It's remarkable efficiency that has kept sports gamblers in the green for the better part of three years.

Arizona Diamondbacks Overs: 89-66 (57.4%)

It's no secret that the Arizona Diamondbacks are a terrible baseball club. In 2021, the Diamondbacks are the team that went over their total the most of any team in baseball, and you can imagine why that is the case: They have an abysmal pitching rotation.

Last season, Arizona had a combined team ERA of 5.11, which was one of the worst of any team in baseball. The only team higher than that awful mark was the Baltimore Orioles, who had a team ERA of 5.84. This is a mark of futility, and it doesn't appear that the Diamondbacks are going to do much about it either for 2022. Even though there is a lockout, the team had shown no interest in going after any big-name pitchers in order to fix their staff.

In 2021, the over was 89-66-7 (57.4%) in all Diamondbacks games, with the next closest team, being the Minnesota Twins with a record of 86-67-9 (56.2%). In the grand scheme of things, that's actually a huge difference in how many games went over their totals compared to under.

Look for Arizona to once again be a team that goes over a lot with terrible pitching and a decent offense in 2022, they aren't going to be very good barring some miracle.

Detroit Tigers Unders: 88-68 (56.4%)

To absolutely no one's surprise, the Tigers had the most games go under the total in 2021. Their pitching staff was surprisingly decent last season, but it is their offense that was terrible. They scored a measly 4.3 runs per game, which was good for 22nd in baseball. They don't have a lot of stars on their roster, at least not last year, and they didn't hit a high average at all. It was another lost season for Detroit, but unlike the Diamondbacks, things seem to be trending up for the Tigers.

If you bet the under last season in Tiger games, you are doing pretty well for yourself right now. It went a combined 68-88-6 to the under, which was the best in baseball. 56.4% of all Detroit games last season went under the total, so you did pretty well for yourself.

The difference is that I don't see that happening again next year. The Tigers have a load of prospects that are bound to come up soon, and they also have plenty of money to spend on free agency that is coming up as soon as this lockout ends. If this lockout ends, which we would prefer it did. Look for the Tigers to actually be somewhat competitive in 2022 and beyond as their young stars finally take center stage.
