The son of seven-time All-Star Matt Holliday, Jackson set a record when he received a bonus of $8.19 million from the Orioles as the No. 1 pick in the 2022 Draft. To say that the hype for this kid is huge would be an understatement. His time in the minors has been all-world, playing across four levels last season while finishing with a .941 OPS.

Holliday was one of just eight minor league players who walked 100 or more times in 2023, resulting in a .442 on-base percentage. He also has plus speed and power, and at just 20 years old entering this 2024 season, he continues to develop into what could be the next great superstar for the sport.

There is a reason he is the No. 1-ranked prospect in the MLB Pipeline, and why he is among the favorites to take home the AL Rookie of the Year. He will likely be met with immediate success at the plate, as Holliday is the best pure hitter we have seen come out of the minors in some time. As with all rookies, how many games he plays will have a big effect on his chances to win this award., which is why his odds have gone down since it was announced he did not make the opening day roster.

Junior Caminero, Rays (+1600, FanDuel)

With Wander Franco facing legal issues, the Rays have an opening at shortstop that needs to be filled, and quickly. Luckily for the Rays, their tremendous farm system has just the guy to take his place.

Caminero's breakout in 2023 shot him up the prospect board, where he currently is the No. 4 on MLB Pipeline. His 31 homers between High-A and Double-A tied for sixth-most in the minor leagues, and no other teenager hit more than 24. He owned a .591 slugging percentage as well, which ranked fifth among MiLB full-season qualifiers, and his .324 average placed 11th.

He was technically on the Rays' roster for the postseason last year as a bench bat. His power is among the best among all rookies that will be playing this season.

Evan Carter, Rangers (+310, DraftKings)

It's hard to believe Carter is up for this award, considering he was a big contributor to the Rangers' World Series title last season. He managed a 1.058 OPS during a September call-up, then slashed .300/.417/.500 while also starring defensively in the postseason on the way to a championship. Since he didn't play until September, he is eligible for this award in 2024 when he likely will play an entire season.

While Carter's bat was certainly the talk of the baseball world during the postseason, his speed on the base paths might be his biggest strength. He stole 32 bags in 43 attempts at all levels last year and also plays some really good defense in center field. He spent most of his big league debut in left field, but his arm strength is good enough that he can play in all three outfield positions.

He's already shown that he can handle baseball's biggest stage, so he should enter the 2024 season with a ton of confidence in his bat and with his glove.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Dodgers (+260, DraftKings)

A starting pitcher has not won the Rookie of the Year award since Jacob DeGrom in 2014, but if you look at every current odds board, Yamamoto is the clear front-runner to do so in 2024. Of course, he is no ordinary rookie. The 25 year old has been playing professional baseball for a while now in Japan. He has experience that most other rookies do not have, and that gives him a big advantage when he makes the jump to MLB.

Yamamoto is projected to be the future ace of the Dodgers' staff, even with the signing of Shohei Ohtani. He's likely to garner a lot of innings barring injury in 2024, which is what has so commonly stopped starting pitchers from winning this award in the past. It's hard to win if you don't play enough.

It also helps that he doesn't have a ton of competition for the award like some previous rookies have had, such as Corbin Carroll last season competing with Kodai Senga. Now, we could see someone else emerge, but Yamamoto is the overwhelming favorite right now.

Jackson Chourio, Brewers (+600, Caesars)

The Brewers are expected to have a down year, and with the lack of offensive talent on their current roster, Chourio is becoming more and more likely to see a lot of plate appearances in the 2024 season. The 19-year-old is MLB's No. 2-overall prospect behind the aforementioned Holliday, and he has shown tremendous ability in his time at the minor league levels.

With 22 homers and 44 steals in 2023, Chourio became the fifth teenager to produce a 20-40 season at the minor league level since 1958 and the first since current MLB superstar Ronald Acuna Jr. in 2017. Milwaukee locked him up with an eight-year, $82 million deal that broke the record book for a player who had zero MLB service time.

His speed is unparalleled, and he will immediately become one of the fastest players in the big leagues as soon as he is on the roster. His base-stealing potential is through the roof, and he could push for the rookie record if he can have some success at the plate this season. He has all the tools you look for in a superstar ballplayer, and don't be shocked if Chourio is a household name very soon.

Paul Skenes, Pirates (+2000, DraftKings)

Skenes helped lead the LSU Tigers to a College World Series title in 2023 with some incredibly dominant performances. He won SEC Pitcher of the Year while leading all D-I pitchers in strikeouts, K/9 and WHIP. His play was so good that the Pirates set a draft day record by handing him a $9.2 million bonus as the No. 1-overall pick.

Over the last half of the season at LSU, Skenes' velocity was incredible, averaging 98 mph and topping out at 102 mph with his fastball. That pitch had a crazy 30% whiff rate, and his slider is nasty as well. Now, one has to remember that this was in college and the minors, so things get a bit harder in the big leagues.

The 6-6, 235-pound righty has all the traits that you would look for in a true starting ace. He's athletic and strong, and he's got some of the best stuff of any pitcher in baseball. There is a reason he is sitting at No. 3 on MLB Pipeline's latest prospect rankings. To me, he has just as good of a shot as anyone on this odds board to win ROY, plus he doesn't have to deal with the best-hitting rookie in Jackson Holliday, who is in the AL.

At 11/1 odds, there is some value here in taking Skenes to have a great rookie season and win the NL ROY.
