The San Francisco Giants last week became the first MLB team to clinch a playoff berth, and there’s potential for this to be quite a playoff run for them.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are favored to win the NL championship with +155 odds at DraftKings, but there is better value in the Giants' odds to win the pennant at +350.
The Giants are in the playoffs for the first time since 2016 and they now have their sights set on winning the NL West. They’ve impressed thus far this season and I don’t see why they can’t take the National League crown.
With a record of 99-54, the Giants are first in the NL West as of Friday with the Dodgers just one game back.
This team also knows that few expected them to get this far, which is all the more reason to go even farther.
"I think it's notable that all of our players and our staff and our organization were aware of the projections and the expectations at the beginning of the season," Giants manager Gabe Kapler said this week. "I think those projections and expectations can provide a lot of motivation, especially with veteran players who believe in themselves. I think that motivation can go a long way toward bringing out peak performance, and this is really about how those players have taken those projections and seen them as an opportunity."
They also now have a self-appointed team captain in Brandon Belt with his teammates rallying behind him as his “sea men” in a photo posted to Kevin Gausman’s Twitter.
This kind of morale can take a team far into the postseason -- even to the World Series.
Besides the Dodgers, the Giants are also behind the Milwaukee Brewers +280 to win the NL championship. But I see the Giants as much more worthy of a league championship.
Get in on the Giants' NL title odds before they get their 100th win and these odds potentially get even shorter.
