MLB Gas Cans Of The Day For Sunday, Oct. 2

Opposing offenses are in great spots

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Patrick Corbin (6.08 ERA), Washington Nationals

Happy Patrick Corbin day! Every start for our guy Patrick has pretty much been tracked on these articles throughout the entire season, because he has been a total disaster in 2022. The Phillies are just trying to hang on to a playoff spot, but with a series against the Astros coming up, they absolutely NEED to win these games against a far inferior opponent like Washington. Especially if the Nationals are going to throw you a bone in the shape of Corbin.

Corbin had his last turn through the rotation skipped after he exited his start against Atlanta with an injury, but he'll rejoin the rotation for his final start of 2022. He has a 3.20 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 11:1 K-to-BB across 19.2 innings through three starts in September, so he has been at least serviceable for a stretch here.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. German Marquez (5.12 ERA), Colorado Rockies

The Dodgers will once again have the best record in baseball, and this is just becoming commonplace in MLB. They have the most talent in the league and the biggest budget, so they can acquire any player they desire at any given time. This team is stacked, and they should be able to get the best of German Marquez and a depleted Rockies team that is just dead in the water right now.

In his last start, Marquez took the loss during a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Giants, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk with six strikeouts in six innings. It was his third straight loss, but other than a nine-run outing on Sept. 9, Marquez has pitched well of late with a 2.81 ERA across 32 innings in his five other most recent starts. He possesses a 5.12 ERA and 1.39 WHIP with 142 strikeouts in 175.2 innings in total this season.

New York Yankees vs. Kyle Bradish (5.11 ERA), Baltimore Orioles

The Yankees have done it, clinching the AL East and getting back into the postseason after a difficult second half of the season. Aaron Judge has tied Roger Maris with 61 homers on the season, and the good vibes are high right now in New York. The offense is starting to pick back up a little, and the pitching has been much better than it was to start the second half. The Orioles are pretty much finished, and it was a great season for them, but it is about to come to a close with Kyle Bradish on the mound.

In his last start, Bradish pitched 2.1 innings, surrendering seven runs on four hits and four walks while striking out three in a 13-9 loss to the Red Sox. He did not factor into the decision. His performance Tuesday was a far cry from his last outing Thursday versus the Astros when he fell just short of a complete-game shutout. Prior to the difficult start, Bradish had produced a 1.64 ERA and 0.78 WHIP with 30 strikeouts over 38.1 innings in his last six outings. He now sits with a 5.11 ERA and 1.39 WHIP with 106 strikeouts over 112.2 frames in 22 starts this season.
