MLB Gas Cans Of The Day For Monday, Sept. 26

Opposing offenses are in great spots

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Chase Anderson (5.21 ERA), Cincinnati Reds

A very small slate here on Monday, but still some pitchers that we can take advantage of. The Pirates absolutely stink, but so do the Reds, and so does Chase Anderson. Bryan Reynolds has been solid for Pittsburgh, leading them in pretty much every category, and he and his team should be able to put up a decent amount of runs here.

In his last start, Anderson allowed one earned run on three hits and no walks while striking out four across five innings to earn the win against Boston. Anderson has worked five innings in each of his last two starts and has allowed only two total earned runs to go along with a 7:2 K-to-BB. Time will tell if this little streak is for real, or if his overall season numbers are the real Anderson.

Atlanta Braves vs. Cory Abbott (4.85 ERA), Washington Nationals

The Braves absolutely own the Nationals, and this game should be no different. Atlanta is right on the heels of the New York Mets for the NL East division, but with time running out, they need to win as many games as possible and have a little luck to win it this season. The Braves have an explosive offense that can put up runs very quickly, and I'm sure they are one of the last teams that Cory Abbott wants to see when he takes the mound on Monday.

In his last game, Abbott took the loss as the Nationals fell 5-2 to these same Atlanta Braves, giving up four runs on six hits and two walks over four innings. He failed to strike out a batter. Abbott hasn't looked great since shifting back into the rotation, allowing seven runs in 11.1 innings over three starts in September. The problem is, the Nationals have no better options, so he'll likely finish out the year.

Boston Red Sox vs. Jordan Lyles (4.50 ERA), Baltimore Orioles

The Red Sox are completely out of the conversation when it comes to the playoffs, but the Baltimore Orioles have played themselves out of it lately. They have been what most people expected them to be for this season, which is terrible. The offense has gone cold, and the pitching has given up a bunch of runs recently. Boston is in a great spot here at home to get some runs on the board against Jordan Lyles and the struggling O's.

In his last start, Lyles earned the win, allowing one run on three hits and no walks with six strikeouts over nine innings against the Tigers. The complete game is Lyles' first of the season and comes as he had surrendered 21 earned runs through 30.2 innings over his previous six starts.
