The World Series continues on Friday night with Game 3 between the Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves. Joe Sheehan joined BetQL Daily to discuss what he thinks of this matchup so far with the series is tied 1-1.
The Braves and Astros are keeping pace with each other, but Atlanta is going to have to lean heavily on its bullpen in the wake of Charlie Morton’s injury and Sheehan sees this as a big advantage for Houston.
“The only thing that really would have surprised me was a Braves sweep,” Sheehan said. “These two teams, if you look at them as they’re currently constructed, are pretty evenly matched.
“The Astros, they’re actually putting a team on the field they didn’t get to put on the field for most of the season with the top seven guys healthy,” he continued. “Obviously the Braves remade their roster, that’s been a big part of the story of this postseason. I thought coming in it would go six or seven. My pick was Astros in six. So a split through two games isn’t terribly surprising.”
“I think the loss of Charlie Morton is a huge factor for the Braves here, who are already,” Sheehan said. “ … Remember they used a bullpen game against the Dodgers in Game 4 of the NLCS. Now they’re going to have to find a way to get through 18 innings between Game 4 and Game 5 without really having a Major League starting pitcher for that.
“You can look at the DH factor, the Astros are either going to have to start a really bad defense or sit one of their better hitters,” he added. “But, just, I look at the pitchers they’re going to have to use in 4 and 5 and that really swings it to Houston for me.”
