San Diego Padres +1400

You probably have a bitter taste in your mouth if you bet this team last season to win the World Series, but this is a new year. Well, it might be a new year, if the lockout finally ends. However, this is a very talented team, and most of that talent returns in 2022 after being injured a lot in 2021. Starter Mike Clevinger is expected to be ready for a full season to add to the rotation of Joe Musgrove, Yu Darvish and Blake Snell. That is one of baseball's best starting rotations for sure, if they can stay healthy. That is always the question and always the risk in betting futures, but sometimes you have to take a chance.

Fernando Tatis is still a person, and he is still one of the best players in all of the league. The Padres also brought in a respected manager in Bob Melvin to rejuvenate the squad and get them back on the right track. Their division will be incredibly hard once again, with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants still vying to be top contenders in the league.

According to FanGraphs’ depth chart projections, the Padres rank as the third-most talented NL team. So, why not take a chance on that talent at a 14/1 number? The line vs. the talent level are not equal, and they should be much higher on the odds board instead of being tied with the Rays and Braves. The point is to find value, and I have every reason to believe this team will be much better than their 14/1 odds indicate to me. They may not be done either, because once the lockout ends, they could sign some players in free agency.

New York Yankees +1200

Another team that you probably hate me for adding into this article, but the Yankees are the Yankees, and they are always in it at the end most years. And c'mon, they have to win one eventually right? This team spends far too much money to not win a World Series in the near future, and this could be the year that they finally break through and get the job done. They have a roster already full of stars that is ready to win right now, and the only real hole on the roster is at shortstop. I wonder who is a free agent right now at shortstop that could really help the Yankees and fill that hole? Oh yea, right, that Carlos Correa guy. You can bet your bottom dollar that Brian Cashman is going to back up the Brinks truck to get any player that he really wants, and the Yankees need a shortstop and love signing big names.

Once the MLB lockout ends, if the MLB lockout ends, New York will be a heavy player in the free agent market like they always are. Correa is the big fish, and they have an infinite amount of money to throw at him if they wish, but Trevor Story is another option for them if they fail to land Correa.

My point here is this team offers some great value right now at 12/1 when they could get significantly better as soon as the lockout is over. If they managed to get Correa or Story, they could jump all the way up to be the second favorite at like +400 odds. Grab them now while you can, before Cashman opens up his wallet and starts throwing money at people.
