NBA Public Bet: Celtics ATS vs. Hornets

The public is shockingly going with one of the biggest favorites of the night. OK, so maybe that isn't very shocking at all, but we are seeing all the bets fly in on the Boston Celtics as they take on the Charlotte Hornets at home. A massive 76% of tickets in this game are backing the Celtics, so what could possibly go wrong for them against one of the worst teams in the NBA?

The Hornets have lost six straight games heading into this one, so they are an easy fade here on the road against the all-mighty Celtics, who have won four of their last five games. These two teams have played each other three times already this season, and this will be the fourth and final matchup. Boston has won all three previous games, which is not surprising at all. In fact, the C's won all three of those games by double-digits, blowing out the Hornets in every game. Maybe Charlotte can show a little pride here and avoid the sweep, but the public sure doesn't believe so.

College Basketball Public Bet: Saint Peter's ATS vs. Marist

The college basketball slate is really terrible today, but that certainly hasn't stopped the public from betting on last year's Cinderella story Saint Peter's against Marist in what promises to be such a great moment in sports history. A whopping 81% of the tickets in this game are on those resilient Peacocks, but the problem is that they have been terrible this season. You just know the public doesn't care and still has their run last season fresh in their heads.

This happens all the time when it comes to the public and betting on sports. They for some reason think that the team they watched last season is the same team that is playing this season. That is literally never the case, and Saint Peter's won't even be in the tournament this season. These are both bad teams, but the Peacocks get the most recognition, so they get the most bets on a terrible slate of games.

NHL Public Bet: Penguins ML at Ducks

Ah, yes, another massive -200 ML bet that the public is all over on the ice tonight. This is about the least shocking thing I've ever seen, as the public almost NEVER takes an underdog in hockey. I actually will be fading the Penguins down the stretch, but the public will gladly take them at -260 on the road. Sorry, but I'll take the value here with the Ducks at almost 2/1 odds.

As of this writing, a massive 93% of all the moneyline bets are on the Penguins to win. Can they win this game? Absolutely, the Ducks are terrible. However, there is simply no chance that I would lay this massive of a moneyline on a team that has a negative shot differential. This could be a great spot for the Ducks, and maybe an even greater spot to fade the public. They took the huge ML with the Oilers last night, and we saw what happened there. I'm even more confident here.
