White Sox Treading Water

The White Sox have had many chances over the last several days to clinch the AL Central Division and stamp their ticket to the post-season.

There is only one problem: they keep losing.

While the Sox will certainly clinch the division at some point barring some sort of epic collapse in which the Cleveland Indians go 12-1 and they lose out, they have been playing very sub-par baseball as of late.

The White Sox have now lost four straight to the Detroit Tigers, a team that they are vastly superior to and should have no problem winning.

One of the biggest concerns is their starting pitching, which looked like their biggest area of strength for a majority of the season.

With Carlos Rodon's fatigued shoulder and Lance Lynn's bum knee, key starters are missing time, and the sox may be back where they left off last year after being defeated by the Oakland Athletics in the first-round. One starting pitcher short.

Dallas Keuchel has proven that his time is up, and he can no longer be relied upon to perform in a playoff game. So where does that leave the White Sox in terms of their starting pitching? With many questions, that's where.

The bullpen is not to be without blame either. Star closer Liam Hendriks has blown far too many saves this season to be considered totally lights out, and Craig Kimbrel, who the team brought in at the trade deadline, has been nothing short of a disappointment. Other bullpen arms like Micheal Kopech have displayed problems as well.

It's Hard To Figure Out This Team

After dropping their second straight game to Detroit on Tuesday, they're now just 8-10 this month, with wins in just two of their last seven games.

They've reached the doorstep of clinching their first AL Central title in 13 years, and seemingly can't turn the handle and walk in.

The biggest problem seems to stem from their offense, where the stats show that it's patently obvious what will happen in each game by how many runs they score.

Take this astounding fact from NBC Sports Chicago: "When they score four runs or more, they are 71-16. When they score three runs or fewer, they are 14-50."

Yeah, that's just insane.

The offense is so hot and cold, each hitter should play Katy Perry's hit when they walk up to the plate. None of this bodes well for a team hoping to make the postseason and win a championship. The stars and talent are there, they just need to perform at the level they are capable of. Who really knows when or if they will.

At only +750, this is a team I think I'll stay away from right now. It pains me to say it, too.
