Nearly a year and two months ago, Garrett Richards underwent Tommy John surgery. Despite that, the San Diego Padres signed him to a two-year, $15.5 million contract in December, most likely projecting him to return in 2020.
But, his recovery has allowed him to make at least one appearance this season.

On Monday, he will return to the mound on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers and, according to manager Andy Green, will be limited to 60-to-65 pitches. Richards, who established himself as one of the league’s most consistent pitchers, has a 3.54 career MLB ERA over 744.2 innings pitched (170 games). But, injuries have limited his potential.
