Before digging into the baseball betting lines for individual games, don’t forget about MLB futures, including the AL Cy Young.

Last season, Toronto Blue Jays ace Robbie Ray walked away with the award and Gerrit Cole of the New York Yankees was the runner-up, but this is a whole new season and there are plenty of talented arms ready to make their bid.

Here’s a deep dive into the candidates to help with your MLB betting picks.

Justin Verlander- Astros (+500)

Last week: The Astros starter pitched a gem against the Minnesota Twins on May 10, finishing with eight strong innings and allowing just one hit.

This week: Verlander didn’t go deep against the Washington Nationals, but he put forth another solid outing, pitching five innings and allowing just two hits and picking up the victory on May 15. Verlander should make another start this weekend against the Texas Rangers.

Kevin Gausman- Blue Jays (+650)

Last week: Gausman has continued to be the most consistent arm in the Blue Jays rotation to start the year. He pitched seven innings and allowed three earned runs against Tampa Bay on May 13, with the team failing to give him much of any run support and ultimately putting a loss on his record.

This week: The right-hander will make the start Wednesday as the Blue Jays are looking to sweep the Seattle Mariners in their three-game set.

Dylan Cease- White Sox (+700)

Last week: Cease wasn’t able to overcome the New York Yankees powerful lineup on May 12 where he pitched just four innings and allowed six earned runs. The one bright spot for Cease was that he did strike out 11 in the loss.

This week: Cease had a nice bounce-back performance against the Kansas City Royals on May 17, picking up his fourth win on the season as he pitched into the sixth inning and allowed no earned runs while striking out nine.

Gerrit Cole- Yankees (+750)

Last week: The runner-up for the Cy Young last season picked up his third victory of the year against the Chicago White Sox on May 13th, pitching 6.1 innings while allowing three earned runs and striking out nine.

This week: Cole is set to start Wednesday for the Yankees, who will be visiting the Baltimore Orioles. Cole now boasts a 3-0 record on the year with an ERA of 2.95.

Shane McClanahan- Rays (+1000)

Last week: The Rays left-hander put together one of his best starts of the season against the Los Angeles Angels on May 11, finishing with a no-decision after pitching seven innings and allowing no earned runs and striking out 11.

This week: McClanahan followed up his performance against the Angels by picking up a victory against the Detroit Tigers Tuesday, pitching seven strong innings and allowing just one earned run.

Shohei Ohtani- Angels (+1000)

Last week: Ohtani made one appearance last week against the Boston Red Sox and didn’t factor into the decision, pitching six innings and allowing just two hits and one earned run.

This week: Ohtani will start Wednesday against the Texas Rangers and be opposed by Dane Dunning. The Angels star two-way player has a record of 3-2 on the campaign, with an ERA of 2.78.
