NHL Odds, Predictions For Feb. 18

We have been absolutly dominant this week in the NHL, and we are going to continue that into the weekend, where we have a huge slate of games today to choose from. Value is always out there, so let's dive in once again and pick out some plus money winners.

BetQL and I will have you covered for the second half of the season, and you had better believe that we are going to sniff out some value every single one of those days.

Avalanche at Blues Prediction

The Blues can't possibly make it three times this week where they kept us from sweeps, can they? Anything is possible, I guess, but my system of handicapping hockey has won us so much this season, and I will continue to cap the same way no matter how many times one team screws me.

The Avalanche are the better team here, no question. They are scoring 3.00 goals per game and allowing 2.76, while also outshooting their opponents 33.3 to 32.5. Not as good as last season's team, but still good.

The Blues are just not a good hockey team, in my opinion, but they keep winning against good teams despite being outplayed. They have a negative goal differential, scoring 3.13 goals per game and allowing 3.57. They also have a negative shot differential, being outshot 32.0 to 29.0 on average each game.

MY PICK: Avalanche -1.5. Colorado is simply the better team, and at some point, the Blues are going to get exposed. I'd like to be on the winning side of that when they start losing consistently.

Capitals at Hurricanes Prediction

You had to know that we were going to include the Stadium Series game in this edition of the NHL Playbook, and we are heading to North Carolina for this year's contest. The Hurricanes have won the first two games of the season series with Washington, but each game ended with a 3-2 final score, with one of those games going to OT. The Capitals are scoring 3.04 goals per game and allowing 2.88, while also outshooting their opponents on average 31.6 to 30.3.

The Hurricanes have been one of the best teams in hockey, already with 80 points. They are scoring 3.35 goals per game and allowing just 2.65, as you would expect a great team to be doing. Carolina is also outshooting opponents 34.9 to 26.4, one of the largest differences in the NHL. The 'Canes have been totally dominant all year.

MY PICK: Capitals +176. We are getting plus-money here with the Caps, and we have already seen them play the Hurricanes close twice this season. To avoid being swept, they need a win here, and I think they certainly have every chance to get it, which gives us value.
