Dan Karpuc: Rockets SF Cam Whitmore 20+ Points vs. Lakers (-118, FanDuel)

After averaging 12.3 points per game in his rookie NBA season, Rockets wing Cam Whitmore will return to the Summer League after winning the MVP last year and I love his individual potential once again. Last year, he averaged 20.4 points per game and led Houston to a 5-1 record in Vegas and this is an opportunity for him to potentially grow his role in Ime Udoka’s rotation for the upcoming season. I firmly believe that No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft Reed Sheppard is going to need some development and am not a believer in newcomer AJ Griffin via the Hawks, so tonight will likely be the Whitmore show, even though eyes will be on the aforementioned newcomers. Also note that this could be Whitmore’s only game of the Summer League since his spot in the rotation is secure and both Jabari Smith Jr. and Tari Eason played in the Summer League opener only before sitting out the rest of the games last year. That could create some extra urgency for Whitmore to put up big scoring numbers against the Lakers tonight. Sorry to Bronny & Co.

Lucy Burdge: Cardinals 3B Nolan Arenado Over 1.5 Total Bases vs. Cubs (+140, BetMGM)
Arenado has hit this in four of his last six games and has one home run in his last two games. Against Kyle Hendricks, he has 10 hits, including three home runs. He also has seven singles off of him. And Hendricks has a 7.53 ERA and has allowed 11 runs over his last three starts. So I think he can go over on this tonight.

Kate Constable: Mercury vs. Fever Over 172.5 (-110, DraftKings)

Over their last five games, the Mercury and Fever both rank in the top five in points per game with Phoenix averaging 88.4 (2nd) and Indiana averaging 80.2 (5th). The Mercury also own the top offensive rating over that span while simultaneously owning the second-worst defensive rating. Diana Taurasi will return to the lineup tonight, and let’s be honest, she’s all offense and very little defense. The Fever are also going to be looking to avenge their loss to the Mystics on Wednesday, a game they should have won. These two teams totaled 170 points when they met earlier this season despite both squads shooting under 29% from deep and Phoenix shooting under 40% from the field. You’ll want to grab this at DraftKings because it’s up to 173.5 at most other books!
