Timberwolves vs. 76ers Preview

The Minnesota Timberwolves will take to the skies and fly out to Pennsylvania to play the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night. Minnesota is coming off a 126-108 road win over the Orlando Magic last time out, while Philly is on the back end of a back-to-back. It was a pretty dominating win for the Timberwolves against a very young and injured Magic team in their last game, and it very well should have been. They have disappointed this season for the most part, but showed some life in that game that could get them going. Anthony Edwards dropped 35 points and Karl-Anthony Towns added 30 in a crushing victory, so they should be entering this game with some momentum.

While the Timberwolves got a big win last time out, Philadelphia continues to look for some consistency. While they are on a back-to-back here, they had four days off previously, so I doubt that players will be sitting out in this one. You really never know in the NBA however, so be sure to check out the status of everyone before placing a bet. Joel Embiid has been just out of his mind recently, with several unconscious performances. The 76ers need Embiid to keep this crazy pace going, considering they will be without James Harden for at least the next month. They also need someone other than him and Tyrese Maxey to step up and start scoring.

MY PICK: Embiid carries this team on most nights, and they absolutely need him to perform on a nightly basis to compete. Minnesota has Rudy Gobert and Towns underneath, which will limit him. I like the T-Wolves.

Jazz vs. Trail Blazers Preview

The Utah Jazz will hit the road on Saturday to travel out to Oregon, where they will take on the Portland Trail Blazers. Utah will be on the back-end of a back-to-back. Portland is coming off a 109-107 loss to the Brooklyn Nets in their last game out. Remarkably, the Jazz remain above .500 on the season, which no one saw coming. When Utah traded Gobert and Donovan Mitchell, many expected them to be rebuilding and to be one of the worst teams in the NBA. The main reason for their success has undoubtedly been Lauri Markkanen, who has had his best season as a pro with the Jazz this year. He's carried them in many games, and whether that is a good thing or not for the franchise is yet to be known. I'm sure the Utah front office would have loved the No. 1 pick, and they will probably look to trade Markkanen.

Portland has been at home for the previous two games, and this will make their third game in a row playing in their building. They went 1-1 in those previous games, so they will look to make it 2-1 on the homestand. Damian Lillard has been the best player on the court for most of their games, but he has had some help from guys like Anfernee Simmons and Jerami Grant, who have both averaged over 20 points per game. Portland is one of the best defensive teams in the NBA surprisingly, allowing just 107.7 PPG, which ranks sixth in the NBA.

MY PICK: Utah will have some trouble here. Portland should be able to contain Utah's offense, which will likely not be as potent given it is a back-to-back for them. With Lillard back, the Blazers have been competitive, and I like them here.

Raptors vs. Hawks Preview

The Toronto Raptors will travel down to Georgia, where they will take on the Atlanta Hawks. The Raptors faced off with the Heat and took home the win by a score of 112-104 in their last game. It's been an up and down season for Toronto so far, a team that is still looking to get back into contention after the departure of Kawhi Leonard. The Raptors have a lot of key players that can be part of a championship roster, such as Fred VanVleet and Scottie Barnes, but perhaps their most underrated player is O.G. Anunoby. He's been great for them this season, and he was great again in their last game. Anunoby ended up with 32 points on 13-of-18 shooting, 10 rebounds and three assists. The guy is really good, and doesn't get enough respect.

Atlanta continues to be a great team on offense, as they usually are. The last time they took the court, the Hawks walked away from with a 126-101 loss when they faced the Boston Celtics. They have been great to start the year, and are looking to get back to the NBA Finals after losing in the last round to the Milwaukee Bucks a few years ago. We didn't think Trae Young could get much better than he was that year, but we were wrong. He can go off at any minute.

MY PICK: This is a tough one for sure, but I'm going with the Raptors as the underdog.
