MLB Gas Can Alert For Tuesday, Aug. 9

Target these offenses against bad pitching

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Tommy Henry (7.20 ERA), Arizona Diamondbacks

The Pirates are not a team that you would usually pick to put up a bunch of runs, but they have proven they can do so. They just put eight runs against the Baltimore Orioles a few days ago, and they have enough offense to put up a crooked number against bad pitching. While they may be one of the worst teams in all of baseball this season, Pittsburgh has shown that they can compete against some of the lesser teams in MLB just like them. Arizona is one of those teams, and they will have an opportunity to tee off on a guy who just made his major league debut.

The Diamondbacks will send Tommy Henry out to the mound in this one. In his last start, he tossed five innings and gave up four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three against Cleveland. It was a rather unspectacular debut for Henry, and things could get worse for him before they get better. It is never easy to come out and perform when you are new to the big stage, and it is a good spot to take advantage of in betting.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Kyle Bradish (6.55 ERA), Baltimore Orioles

Toronto has been a bit of a let down this season overall, even if they are still a pretty good team. Most people expected them to really compete for the AL East division and be one of the favorites to win the World Series. They have simply not done that, and even fired their manager halfway through the season for their struggles. They have gotten much better since, and they should be able to put up some serious runs against Orioles starter Kyle Bradish.

In his last start, Bradish allowed one earned run on three hits and three walks while striking out five across five innings of work against the Rangers. Since being activated from a month-long stint on the injured list, Bradish has allowed only three earned runs across 10 innings with a 12-3 K-to-BB in two starts. He's been much better lately, but he'll have a tough task ahead of him with a Toronto offense that's been heating up lately.

New York Mets vs. Mike Minor (6.19 ERA), Cincinnati Reds

The Mets have been fantastic this season, especially their offense, which can explode for double-digit runs on any given night. Pete Alonso and Co. have been raking all season, and when you combine their excellence on offense with some solid pitching, you get a 70+ win team in August with the potential to win the World Series. This is a team that should be taken very seriously as a title contender, and I will go so far as to tell you I placed a full unit bet on them at +750 to win it all. When they take on bad teams like the Cincinnati Reds, you can expect some fireworks to go off.

The Reds will send Mike Minor out there once again to get the start. In his last appearance on the mound, he gave up three earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six over 5.1 innings of work to take the loss in a 3-0 defeat against the Marlins. His fastball is down over four mph since 2017 and he has been awful in 11 starts this year after beginning the season late due to shoulder soreness. Minor will carry a 6.19 ERA into this matchup against the deadly Mets offense, and you can bet that a large number might get put up in this one.
