The "top" 12 college football teams in the nation have been found and are ready to battle it out for the National Championship. While most of the names in the playoff bracket have been essentially set in stone for more than a month, a few surprises slipped in after conference championship weekend that have caused quite a bit of line movement. Let's jump into it.
Ohio State may have slipped to the No. 2 seed in the College Football Playoff after its loss to Indiana in the Big Ten championship game, but the Buckeyes still sit atop national betting boards as the favorites to win a second straight title.
At DraftKings, Ohio State opened at +240 to win the CFP shortly after Sunday’s final rankings were released. Indiana followed closely at +250, with Georgia at +600 and Oregon at +750. Despite being the No. 5 seed, Oregon held slightly shorter odds than No. 4 Texas Tech, which opened at +800.
All four guaranteed quarterfinalists, Indiana, Ohio State, Georgia and Texas Tech also opened as favorites to make it to the CFP Semifinal. With the sportsbooks giving Texas Tech and Oregon (+280) along with Texas A&M and Ole Miss (+750) the same chances of making it to the Championship game on Jan. 20th.
All four first-round hosts — Oregon, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma — opened as betting favorites. But the line in the Oklahoma–Alabama matchup shifted quickly. The Sooners were initially -1.5, however, early action flipped the spread to Alabama -1.5.
Miami, which edged out Notre Dame for the No. 10 seed, opened as a 5.5-point road underdog at Texas A&M. In the remaining first-round matchups, Oregon opened as a sizable 21.5-point home favorite over James Madison, while Ole Miss launched as a 16.5-point favorite against visiting Tulane at DraftKings.
