The North Dakota Fighting Hawks took the court against Incarnate Word and earned the victory with a final of 65-57 in their first game of the season. This is a team that shouldn't be underestimated, even against a team like Creighton that everyone loves this season. Elijah Brooks is a player to watch for North Dakota.

Creighton has gotten all the attention this offseason as one of the sleepers to win the National Championship. They are a fantastic basketball team, there is no doubt there, and they should have a deep run. South Dakota State transfer Baylor Scheierman was balling out in their first game. He totaled 11 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in his 34 minutes on the court, so watch him in this contest.

MY PICK: Creighton is definitely the better team, but i like what North Dakota has to offer with Brooks and some other good pieces. I think they can keep it in the margin. 26.5 points? That's a lot.

Texas vs. Texas, what could be more exciting? Maybe the University of Texas vs. Texas Tech perhaps, but we can make due here. The Texas Southern Tigers played San Francisco and ended up losing by a score of 90-77 in their first contest. PJ Henry ended up with 21 points on 6-of-17 shooting, and he was easily their best player of the night. He'll need to be great if they have any shot against Texas Tech, or even just covering the number.

For their last game, the Texas Tech Red Raiders went home victorious with a score of 73-49 when they played Northwestern State. It was an easy victory against an inferior opponent that gave them little resistance. A warm-up game is great to have before you take on real competition. Texas Southern isn't that, really, but they are a step up in class.

MY PICK: Give me Texas Tech here. This should be another coasting win for the Red Raiders as they prepare for tougher opponents later in the season.

One of the better matchups of the night involves the defending National Champions. Kansas had zero issue with Omaha in the opener on Monday. The Jayhawks destroyed the Mavericks, 89-64, behind 23 points from freshman Gradey Dick. Jalen Wilson had 19 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists. The North Dakota State Bison managed to make it to the Summit League title game a year ago, and while that league and the Big 12 are like two completely different levels, they are still a solid team. They open the season with two impossible to win games, so you can't knock them too much.

On opening night, North Dakota State lost at Arkansas, 76-58. Now, they get Kansas. Rough. Kansas is still adjusting to a bunch of key departures. Ochai Agbaji, Christian Braun, David McCormack and Remy Martin are all gone. That is a ton of talent and experience to replace. The good news is that Kansas breeds talent, so they will be just fine.

MY PICK: These teams are simply in different galaxies when it comes to competition. Kansas is a perennial contender for a championship, while North Dakota state is an average Summit League team most years. Kansas should crush them.
