Dan Karpuc: UMass -2 vs. Towson
I’ll admit, I may have shed a tear when Bellarmine (can’t believe that’s a real school) not only beat the spread last night, but won outright at Louisville. However, I’m going to brush it off and today is a new day. Right? Right. The Frank Martin era at UMass got off to a hot start with a 94-67 win over Central Connecticut State in which six different players scored in double-figures and the Minutemen scored 54 points on 72% shooting in the second half. That explosive offensive attack is not going to happen every time out, but I expect them to beat a Towson squad that just took down Albany by five points in their opener. This is a new-look Massachusetts squad that features two impact freshmen (RJ Luis and Keon Thompson, both of which scored in double figures in their opener) and seven transfers and I’m very high on Martin’s ability to get the most out of his players in this home test.

Lucy Burdge: Arizona State -15.5 vs. Northern Arizona
Arizona State is coming off a 62-59 win over Tarleton State and Northern Arizona is coming off a 73-55 loss to Michigan State. I think Arizona State has a great chance to blow out Northern Arizona here and cover this spread, and a trend in their favor is that Bobby Hurley is 11-2 ATS after a game where their opponent was called for at least 27 fouls in his career. And with Arizona State having homecourt advantage as well, I really like the Sun Devils to cover this double-digit spread against Northern Arizona.

Brad Pinkerton: Texas Tech -19.5 vs. Texas Southern

Last season, Texas Tech was among the best teams in the nation against the spread, covering about 60% of the time, and the Red Raiders were especially good covering at home (14-4). Maybe that doesn't mean much now -- New Year, New You and all -- but I expect Mark Adams' team to get back on track after not quite covering -28 in a 73-49 win against NW State on Monday.
