Darius Garland Over 7.5 Assists vs. Jazz

Over the last two games, Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Darius Garland has averaged 11.0 assists on 17.5 potential assists and he’s not only averaged 8.0 dimes per game this season, but has also gotten over this 7.5-assist mark in four of his last five contests. 

Every game is a pace-up matchup for the Cavaliers since they rank dead-last in that metric, but the Jazz rank 11th in that regard and also rank 25th in Defensive Rating. That combination should give Garland some extra opportunities to facilitate and over the last three games, Utah has allowed their opponents to rack up 26.3 per contest (9th-most in that span). 

Since Donovan Mitchell entered the picture, the pressure of being the No. 1 scorer has been taken off of Garland’s shoulders and he’s been a willing distributor as indicated by the fact that he ranks 5th in the Association in assists per game. When he’s been on the floor, he’s recorded an astronomical 46.5% assist rate, which ranks 9th among NBA starters (next-highest on the Cavs: 28.9%). 

With Mitchell, Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen, Caris LeVert and a slew of role players all healthy and ready to contribute in the scoring column, there are more than enough complementary pieces to help Garland get over this 7.5-assist mark.
