Warriors vs. Heat Prediction

These two teams just played each other on October 27, so we can take a little away from what we saw in that game. Miami has not gotten off to the best start this year, and against Golden State last time, they looked overmatched. Steph Curry was unsurprisingly unstoppable, dropping 33 points and making it look easy out there. The Warriors shot an impressive 50% from the floor, including 39% from three point range. They also out-rebounded Miami, by a huge margin (50 to 31), which gave them a plethora of extra possessions.

The Heat have lost three of their last five games, and nothing has been going right for them to begin the year. The defense has not been a solid as it has in recent seasons and they've given up 119+ points in their last two games. A 2-5 start to the season is not something we are used to from them, but I was low on Miami coming into the year, and I think this could continue.

PICK: Playing in Miami might give them a little bit of a boost, but the Warriors are just the far superior team.

Timberwolves vs. Suns Prediction

Both the Timberwolves and Suns are looking to turn in playoff-worthy seasons this year, and both teams have started out heading in the right direction. Phoenix has been lights out to begin the year, with a gaudy 5-1 record and a four-game win streak coming into this matchup. If they can grab a win here it will mark their fifth straight win at home as well, where they play an excellent brand of basketball. The Suns are 4-0 ATS in their last four games as a favorite, so maybe they are the play. Not only that but the under is 6-2 in Suns' last eight games playing on one day's rest.

As for Minnesota, they have looked decent so far with a 4-3 record, but it hasn't been anything special. They allow the 13th most points per game in the NBA, but they also score the 13th most points, so it's been very average start. The under is 4-1 in Timberwolves' last five games overall, so maybe right is something to look for. They also haven't done well at all against Phoenix in the past. They are just 2-6 ATS in their last eight meetings, and 4-9 ATS in the last 13 meetings in Phoenix.

PICK: Give me the Suns here. They match up well with the Timberwolves, and they have been playing a better-than-average brand of basketball, unlike Minnesota.

Magic vs. Thunder Prediction

The Orlando Magic probably wish they could start this season over with how poorly it has gone so far for them, but even if they did, the result would probably be the same. This is not a very good basketball team, even if their rookie Paolo Banchero has been playing like an All-Star out of the gates. The team has been playing great defense, I'll give them that, holding opposing teams under 120 points in every game except for one. They just can't muster enough offense to get them in the victory column, and that is something they will have to work on.

The Thunder have been better than expected this year so far, sitting at 3-3. For them, average basketball is far better than what was imposed on them, which was the potential to be the worst team in basketball. Still, there is a lot to like about this team. Josh Giddey is a rising star in the league, while Shai Gilgious-Alexander has been one of the best players in the NBA so far, and he's proving every game why he is an All-Star. Oklahoma City isn't a good team overall, but they have some good pieces, and that is something to build upon. They are also 5-1 ATS, so exceeding expectations has been their strength.

PICK: I'll take the Thunder at home. They are the better team, they are at home, and they cover point spreads. Orlando is just 2-4-1 ATS. The under is worth a look too.
