MLB Games Of The Day For Tuesday, Aug. 23

The best matchups of the day, all in one place

The Subway Series is here once again between the New York Mets and New York Yankees, and we have another great matchup between two talented teams. Both the Mets and Yankees have had great seasons up to this point, although the Yankees have been struggling of late. However, they pulled out the win against Max Scherzer on Monday, and will be looking to even the season series Tuesday.

Frankie Montas is on the hill for the Yankees, and he was lit up like a Christmas tree in his last start. He's been pretty bad since coming over to New York from Oakland, and the Mets feature a great lineup that can easily get to struggling pitchers.

I'll take the Mets F5 -0.5.

After you wet your beak a little with the Subway Series in New York, you can head on over to Los Angeles, where another great matchup will begin on the other side of the country. The Milwaukee Brewers invade the City of Angels to take on the Dodgers in what should be a great nightcap game. Two of the very best pitchers in the league will take the mound in this one, so you can expect a great battle and not one of those blowout snorers that will put you to sleep on the couch. That is, unless you hate great pitching. The offenses clearly favor L.A., who has the best lineup in baseball, while Milwaukee struggles at times to get anything on the board.

They will have a tough time doing just that against Tony Gonsolin, who has been incredible this season for the Dodgers. He is a remarkable 15-1 on the season, with a 2.12 ERA and 0.88 WHIP. Gonsolin continues to shut down opposing offenses every time he gets the ball, and he has been especially great at home in Dodger Stadium, where he owns an 8-1 record with a 1.53 ERA. Milwaukee's best hitter, Christian Yelich, barely has an average over .250. This could be a quick night for the Brew Crew's offense, but the good news for them is that they have the reigning NL Cy Young winner on the mound to at least give them a chance.

Corbin Burnes is fantastic, truly one of the best in baseball over the last couple of years. Burnes is 9-5 with a 2.48 ERA and 0.93 WHIP. Perhaps most impressive are his strikeouts, as the righty has the second most in MLB with 187 Ks in 24 starts. That is just nasty stuff that will give even the best lineup fits in their effort to get some runs across the plate. His away stats are even better than when he's at home. On the road, Burnes owns a 4-2 record and a masterful 1.94 ERA.

This one isn't that hard to figure out. Take the under and just hope that it isn't a trap.
