Lightning at Panthers Prediction

Welcome back, NHL. We missed you. The All-Star break is over and we can get back to real hockey and making money. The first game we'll take a look at is taking place down in Florida, where the Panthers will defend their home territory against the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning. In-state rivalries are always fun, and this should be a great matchup. The Lightning are good, no doubt about it. They have lost a step from their previous Cup-winning seasons, but they are still a good team. The offense is fantastic as always, scoring 3.63 goals per game and takes 31.9 shots per game. Goaltending has been worse than in past seasons, but still solid, giving up 2.92 goals each game.

Florida is perhaps the league's biggest disappointment, but I think it can turn things around in the second half. If the Panthers can get some solid goaltending, they are a very dangerous team. The Panthers are scoring 3.40 goals per game and taking a whopping 35.7 shots per game. The offense is still very lethal, but they give up so many goals that it has made them look average. Still, this team is too talented to be this poor, no matter how bad the defense is.

MY PICK: Panthers +105. I'll take Florida as the home underdog almost any day of the week. I'm still a believer that this team can turn it around in the second half, and that starts here by making a statement win against a very good Lightning squad.

Islanders at Flyers Prediction

This definitely isn't the most exciting matchup on the ice, that is for sure, but we aren't here just to pick the best games of the night. We're here to try and win bets, and I think there is some value in this game. The New York Islanders will be traveling to Philadelphia to take on the Flyers. New York has a winning record, but I will be fading the Islanders a lot over the second half barring some sort of miraculous turnaround. They are getting outshot on average 31.7 to 30.7, and they are scoring just 2.85 goals per game.

The Flyers aren't really much better. They have managed to stay afloat, but this boat has holes all over it. They are getting outshot 30.0 to 31.7 on average, and are letting up 3.16 goals per game. This is certainly a team that I'll fade against good teams, but this is not that scenario.

MY PICK: Flyers +110. Two plus-money dogs I'm giving out today. I just think the difference between these two teams isn't that large, and the Flyers will be at home tonight. I'll take a shot with them.
