NHL Picks & Predictions For Today's Games

Sabres at Blue Jackets Prediction

For our last few picks of the regular season, let's start out in Ohio, where the Buffalo Sabres will be taking on the Columbus Blue Jackets. Neither of these teams will be in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but there are draft implications at stake here.

The Sabres have won four of their last five games, but it wasn't enough for them to get back into the playoff race. I don't believe they are that good, so it's probably for the best. Buffalo is scoring 3.56 goals per game and allowing 3.64, while also being outshot by their opponents on average 33.1 to 32.5.

The Blue Jackets would be very smart to lose this game, but they would have been smart to lose last night to the Penguins as well. Winning does nothing but hurt the future of the team right now, and they cost themselves a better shot at acquiring a generational talent in the draft. Columbus is scoring 2.54 goals per game and allowing 3.99, while getting outshot by their opponents on average 35.4 to 29.2.

MY PICK: Blue Jackets ML (+145, DraftKings). Normally, you would think it would be a lock for the Sabres to win since the Blue Jackets are incentivized to lose. But as I mentioned, Columbus beat Pittsburgh in the same situation last night, making a lot of Blue Jackets fans very angry. Since they seemingly don't care, they can certainly win this game against Buffalo at home at a good plus-money value.

Avalanche at Predators Prediction

For our very last pick of the regular season, we're headed to Tennessee, where the Colorado Avalanche will be on the road to take on the Nashville Predators. The Avs will actually be trying in this game because they can jump the Dallas Stars with a win here tonight in the Western Conference standings. Colorado is scoring 3.33 goals per game and allowing 2.72, while outshooting their opponents 33.2 to 31.1 on average.

Nashville has nothing to play for here except for pride, and we'll have to see how much of that they will have here on the ice tonight. Either way, they are already not a great team to begin with, and I have been fading them a lot down the stretch. The Predators are scoring 2.70 goals per game and allowing 2.80, while getting outshot by their opponents on average 33.3 to 29.6.

MY PICK: Avalanche -1.5 (+125, PointsBet). Since the Avalanche actually have a reason to want to win this game, I'll back them to get the job done and cover tonight. Nashville is dead in the water, and at a decent plus-money value, I'll take Colorado to win by 2+.
