The final Wednesday of March brings us a small, three-game slate on the ice. The key to making money in the NHL is value, and there is plenty of it to be had every single night. It’s one of my favorite sports to bet, and if you have missed out on this season, there is still time to jump on this train. Plus, the BetQL model has been on fire all season right along with me.
The model has gone 115-82-33 (59% win) on 3-Star and higher NHL bets of $100 in the last 14 days, for a pure profit of $1,229. That’s in just two weeks. Let’s keep chugging along with more Ws today. Islanders at Capitals Prediction
Let’s start the night out in D.C., where we see the New York Islanders heading down to take on the Washington Capitals. Anyone who has been reading these guides this season knows how I feel about the Islanders (frauds). They are scoring 2.99 goals per game and allowing 2.68, but they are getting outshot by their opponents 31.3 to 30.6 on average. Any team that is getting outshot on a nightly basis, yet has a winning record, throws up a red flag for me.
The Capitals are treading water at this point, but they haven’t sunken quite yet. This is a massive game for their playoff chances, as the Islanders currently occupy one of the East’s wild-card spots. I think the Caps are better than New York, honestly. Washington is scoring 3.16 goals per game and allowing 3.06, while outshooting opponents, 31.5 to 30.6 on average.
MY PICK: Capitals ML (-110, BetRivers). This game is lined as dead even at -110 each way, but I think the Caps are the better team. Plus, they are at home, where they have played a much better brand of hockey. I’ll take them to get a very important win here, as they really need it if they want any chance at the playoffs.
Next up, we’ll head over to Colorado, where the Minnesota Wild will be facing off against the Avalanche. This is also a very important game in the playoff standings, as the Wild sit just one point ahead of the Avs for the lead in the Central Division. Minnesota has won four of its last five coming into this game, and that is without its best player in Kirill Kaprizov. The Wild are scoring 2.93 goals per game and allowing 2.62, while outshooting their opponents 31.1 to 30.7 on average.
Colorado is just as hot, winning four of the last five games as well, so we should have a really good battle tonight. The Avalanche have actually won both previous matchups between these two teams. They are scoring 3.27 goals per game and allowing 2.71, while outshooting their opponents 33.2 to 31.3 on average. The defending Cup champs look to be back in full form.
MY PICK: Wild ML (+135, DraftKings). These two teams will both be in the playoffs, and both know how important this game could be. The Avs have won both previous games, and I think the Wild are due. I’ll take the value here at a plus-money number with a good team.
Panthers at Maple Leafs Prediction
Our last pick of the night brings us to Canada, where the Florida Panthers will take on the Toronto Maple Leafs. Florida has now lost four straight games and is on the outside looking in at the playoffs. However, the Panthers are just a few points behind the Penguins, though they need to start winning right now. The Panthers are scoring 3.45 goals per game and allowing 3.45, while outshooting their opponents 36.9 to 31.6.
The Maple Leafs are a great team that is secure in a playoff spot this year. They have won three of their last five games, and will look to add to that tonight. Toronto is scoring 3.42 goals per game and allowing 2.74, while also outshooting opponents 31.8 to 29.3 on average.
MY PICK: Panthers ML (+125, FanDuel). The Panthers are desperate at this point. They know that they are now entering “must-win” territory if they want to secure a playoff spot. Toronto is already secure, so the Leafs don’t need this win nearly as much. It’s tough to trust the Panthers with how disappointing they have been, but at plus-money in a very important game, I’ll take a shot on the value.
