Let's kick things off with some early action to get us prepped and ready for the rest of the day. The New Jersey Devils will take a trip to Canada to face the Ottawa Senators, and man have they been absolutely on fire. New Jersey has won 11 straight games, which is just crazy in this sport. They are sitting pretty with a 14-3 record, and are showing no signs of slowing down. They are firing on all cylinders offensively, taking 36.9 shots per game and scoring 3.71 goals per contest as well, both are tops in the NHL. Defensively, you get the same type of elite production. I'm not sure how they are doing it, but the Devils only allow 24.6 shots against per game, which is by far and away the best number in the league. Their goaltending has been exceptional, allowing just 2.41 goals per contest.

The Senators are the polar opposite of what the Devils are right now. After starting the season hot, they have hit an iceberg, which has resulted in losing three of their last five games. For Ottawa, the main problem has been goaltending and defense, which have both been below average. They let up 3.38 goals per game, almost a full goal more than New Jersey, and the defense allows 33.9 shots each time out on average. That's almost 10 more shots given up per game than the Devils are allowing. The offense hasn't been bad, scoring 3.44 goals per and taking 32.9 shots, but they can't overcome their defensive woes.

MY PICK: I just can't fade the Devils right now, especially against a team that is lacking on defense. They will lose eventually, but I don't think it is here against this Senators team.

Right after the Devils and Senators wrap up, the next game comes on so you don't even have to get up off your couch. The Calgary Flames and Florida Panthers will do battle down in beautiful Sunrise in the great state of Florida for a mid-afternoon clash. For teams with expectations as high as they are for both squads, neither team has been winning a ton of matches so far this season. Calgary is a conundrum because, with their stats, they should be a lot better than 7-7-2. The Flames are taking a ridiculous 36.3 shots per game but scoring just 3.00 goals per contest, which is just average. They can't find the back of the net no matter how many pucks they are throwing at it. Goaltending has been an issue, which is what we thought would be a strength coming into the year. Calgary is allowing 3.38 goals per game, and you can't blame the defense here. They are allowing only 27.6 shots per game, one of the better numbers in the league.

Florida also has their head just above the .500 mark this season, sitting at 9-7-1. A Presidents Trophy repeat is looking unlikely at this point, but they can still be a very good team. There is one thing that they are better at than anyone else, and that is taking shots on goal. The Panthers are taking 40.6 shots per contest, the best mark in the league. They are scoring 3.29 goals per game, which is above average but still not overly impressive for a team that takes that many shots. The defense and goaltending have been below average, allowing 31.4 shots per game and 3.18 goals.

MY PICK: I keep looking at both of these teams and wondering why they don't have better records. Both are very good and play well, especially Calgary which baffles me. If you can get the Flames at plus-money, I'd take them. Great value there for a team that is going to figure it out.

The late night game begins with a matchup where we can win some free coin, and that's when the Chicago Blackhawks travel to Massachusetts to take on the Boston Bruins. The Blackhawks somehow don't have the worst record in the NHL, but rather, a record that indicates an average team. They are far below that, and should be massive underdogs in this game. Chicago's only impressive stat this season comes from their goaltending, which has allowed 3.18 goals per game. That's slightly worse than average, but it is still far better than anything else they do. That number doesn't look bad at all when you consider the defense gives up a whopping 34.7 shots per game. The offense is just terrible, and nothing Patrick Kane does will make that any better with the players he has to play with. They score just 2.50 goals per game and take 25.9 shots, both numbers being bottom five in the NHL.

Boston meanwhile, is an absolute powerhouse. They are 15-2 on the season and have won five straight games coming into this one at home. It's hard to explain how good they have been. The Bruins are scoring 4.00 goals per game, and taking 33.8 shots as well, so their offense is explosive. The defense and goaltending have been remarkable, especially between the pipes. They are allowing just 2.12 goals per game, and also 29.9 shots against. When I say there is nothing this team does bad, I really mean it. They are fantastic in every category, and it shows with how they have destroyed all comers in 2022.

MY PICK: Bruins -1.5 goals and watch the money come in.
