Breaking Down LA's Decision To Claim Baker Mayfield

Before he joins the new college basketball BetQL U: In The Action show on Saturday, Mark Drumheller of Yahoo Sportsbook sat down with the BetMGM Tonight crew to discuss popular (and not-so popular) betting trends in football.

When it comes to the NFL Week 14 matchup, Drumheller is not sold on the Los Angeles Rams (3-9). After the season the team had, in addition to Matthew Stafford going down with a season-ending injury, Drumheller expressed disgust with the decision to claim Baker Mayfield off of waivers. 

Mayfield had six touchdowns and six interceptions with his 57.8% completion percentage while with the Carolina Panthers. His struggles and injury paired with the firing of Matt Rhule led to the Panthers 4-8 record this season, still vying for the NFC South.

Instead, Drumheller going with the Las Vegas Raiders (5-7).

“You just have to bet the Raiders,” Drumheller said. “I know it’s moving, it’s getting close to the key number at 7 so you’re going to get it in a tough spot. Laying that kind of number with a team that had just lost so many close games,”

Drumheller sees potential with the Las Vegas team as opposed to the Rams who look different from last year.

“This Rams team - if you’re out there claiming Baker Mayfield, you’re not serious. They’re putting on the projection that they’re trying to salvage their season. Everybody in the locker room knows what’s going on.” Drumheller said. “I don’t see how you can back them at this spot, even if it gets to 7. I don’t know, you tease it down if it gets to 7. Then you play the Raiders then, you know, you pick some spots on Sunday to pair it with. I can’t back the Rams with the way their season is going. I don’t see how they turn things around,”
