How Jalen Hurts’ Injury Shifts NFL Futures Markets

En route to a fantastic MVP-caliber performance against the Dallas Cowboys on Christmas Eve, Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback Jalen Hurts was injured following a 25-20 win over the Chicago Bears.

On a run, Hurts was hit hard and was then slow to get back to his feet. Though he went on to dominate in the fourth quarter, he still suffered a short-term shoulder sprain. This will potentially sideline Hurts for the next few games, so how does it affect his MVP odds?

BetMGM’s Lead Trader Seamus Magee joined the BetQL Daily crew to discuss this topic and how the market shifted.

“The first thing that jumps out is this feels like it could be multiple games with this injury. I feel like it was just this week maybe you could see him being a little closer than +450 for MVP at least. I feel like this would’ve been such a big game for Hurts especially to really cement himself in the race.” Magee said. “Every which way, Jalen Hurts affected any market, it moved. Whether it was the game or you saw a big almost five-point jump, whether it was the division, the Cowboys now have a pretty legitimate - they’re a lot more shorter than they were a couple weeks ago. As you can see here with player of the year and for MVP.  And then we have offensive player of the year off the board right now, you’re gonna see a pretty sizable shift there as well.”

However, Magee believes one future is still safe.

“I still can’t imagine [Nick Sirianni] loses [the Coach of the Year] award with the year they’ve had,” Magee said.
