Ravens vs. Bills: Weather Forecast and Betting Insights

How snow, wind, and cold temperatures could impact the Ravens-Bills Divisional Round matchup.

While the NFL Divisional Round will feature some fantastic matchups between a few of the best teams in the league, it is no stranger to seeing some very inclement weather this time of the year. In many places around the country, it is bitterly cold, with temperatures falling below 10 degrees in a lot of areas with wind chills well below zero. In addition to that, a large part of the central and northern states recently had a big round of snowfall dumped on them, and it seems that more of it could be on the way for a few of these games.

The game between the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs has a pretty good chance to see some awful weather, and the game between the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills also is forecasted to be an ugly affair. This should not even be remotely surprising to anyone who knows anything about geography, as the game takes place in Buffalo in the month of January. I think most people get the picture, and we could be seeing more of that on Sunday night.

The latest forecast for Buffalo this Sunday is calling for some snow showers, but the good news is that there looks to be only about a 20% chance it actually does. Of course, that can change very quickly, and taking stock in a weather forecast days in advance is usually a very poor decision. However, we don’t need a forecast to know that it is going to be extremely cold in the game, and it will at least likely be a very windy game. I’m seeing the potential of 15 mph winds, which could significantly change how these teams play.

If it is cold and windy, that almost always is going to lead to a game where both teams will be running the football a lot. That obviously will help the Ravens a bit more since they were by far and away the best rushing team in the NFL this season with Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry bulldozing over everyone. However, I think the Bills are a bit underrated in their ability to run the football as well. Josh Allen can scramble with the best of them, and while he doesn’t have the top line speed that Jackson does, he is very hard to tackle with his frame. Let’s also not forget RB James Cook leads the entire NFL in rushing touchdowns.

Despite the possible weather conditions, the total for this game still remains fairly high at 51.5. A lot of stock gets put into betting unders when weather is a threat, but sometimes that can actually lead to an over if the total gets too low. These are two of the best offenses in the NFL, and it is no secret at all that the defenses here are way behind the eight ball compared to their offenses. Plus, these two teams are great at running the ball anyway, and have been putting up a lot of points on the ground no matter what the conditions are.

So, don’t just blindly bet on the under because there is a threat of snow and wind. Many people refer to this as a “snover” game, where you bet the over when there is such a public sentiment based off of weather. Right now, that is exactly what is happening, so I would wait and try to bet an over at the lowest number possible getting closer to kickoff.
