Allen Knows He Has To Be Better

Allen had an MVP-caliber campaign in 2020 and then signed a massive contract extension this past offseason. Expectations were high entering the season, but Allen’s performance in the first two games hasn’t been that great.

In terms of stats, he’s near the bottom in every major passing category: yards (27th), completion percentage (30th), yards per attempt (32nd), adjusted yards per pass attempt (28th), net yards per pass attempt (31st), yards per completion (28th) and QB rating (28th).

That is not going to get it done, and the Bills won't be winning anything with how he has looked. He seems to look uncomfortable in the pocket far too often, and he’s making bad decisions with the football like his 2019 version.

Taking too long to make decisions can really hurt the team, and he’s not throwing the ball with the correct angles or velocities that we were used to seeing last year. Almost like regression, which some people expected.

Allen Will Improve After Shaking Off Rust

Even thought the Bills destroyed the Miami Dolphins this past Sunday, Allen still committed turnover-worthy plays involving poor ball security or passes that have a strong chance of being intercepted, on a career-high 10.8 percent of his snaps. That, of course, comes from Pro Football Focus. For Allen, it will be all about shaking off the rust and regaining form. It is exceptionally hard to be great in back-to-back seasons in the NFL.

Allen has always been a gunslinger, a QB that isn't afraid to throw the ball anywhere on the field. That is just the way he is always going to be, but we saw it in him last season that he can be smart while doing so and limiting his turnovers.

Allen has done it before, and he can do it now. If he regains his old form, +1000 could be a steal for the Bills.
