Can The Texans Shock The Browns In Cleveland?

Can the Texans actually start off the season 2-0? After last week's thrashing of Jacksonville, it's now a possiblity.

  • The Texans are coming off an a 37-21 whipping of the Jaguars, a game in which they closed as home underdogs. The Texans are currently massive +12.5 dogs to the Browns on the road in Cleveland.

  • They are +460 on the moneyline, while it will cost you -620 to back the Browns.

  • The Browns lost a tight battle with the Kansas City Chiefs in which they were winning for most of the game, and had an opportunity to pull the upset off on the road. This week will present the challenge of avoiding the upset at home to the Texans, which would be a huge disappointment.

Texans Already Avoid 0-17

Some actually thought the Texans could go winless this year with their lack of talent and Deshaun Watson remaining under investigation, but that already ended in Week 1. Houston put up 449 yards of offense, converted 12-of-19 third down attempts, and almost put up 40 on the Jags. The defense bent, giving up 395 yards of their own, but didn't break by intercepting Jags rookie No. 1 pick Trevor Lawrence three times.

This is a team that won't win many games this season, but for first year head coach David Cully, it will be about finding the players who want to stay and build something. The Texans played hard against a poor team and won. Cully will be looking to see who continues to give full effort all season long.

Browns Look Dominant In Week 1

How often do you read that headline and see that the team it's about lost? Not very often. The Browns played well enough in Week 1 to best just about any team in the NFL not named the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes and Co. proved to be just too much in the end, and came back from a large deficit to win the game at home and avoid the upset.

Cleveland now starts its season 0-1 for the seventeenth (17!) year in a row. Almost impossible, but they have achieved this feat. The Browns put up 457 yards of offense, and were the best offensive team of Week 1 yardage wise. They lost. They averaged 5.9 yards per carry on the ground, and bulldozed over the KC defense. They lost. Baker Mayfield threw for over 300 yards through the air. They lost.

The point is, somehow they managed to lose a game where they were the best statistical team of the Week.

Predictions

The Browns are the much better football team, point blank period. They looked great against KC in a loss, and should be able to destroy Houston with an air to ground assault. However, will last weeks deflating loss effect the team? Houston could take advantage if it does.
