Hutchinson, Campbell Star in Lions' 'Hard Knocks' Premiere

What is the BetQL Model projecting for the Lions this season?

This year's much-anticipated season of HBO's "Hard Knocks" premiered on Tuesday night to an audience of fans eager for a taste of the start of the NFL season. And, boy, were they in for a treat with the Detroit Lions as the subject of this season.

This first episode did not disappoint, as we saw head coach Dan Campbell offer up some quotes that will go down in NFL coaching history for sure. For example, “Doesn’t matter if you have one ass cheek and three toes, I will beat your ass." Doesn't matter if it doesn't make sense, it sounds awesome. Oh, and Aidan Hutchinson gave a rousing performance of Billie Jean.

After this episode, especially Campbell's speech, I was ready to run through a wall to bet on this team's futures, so let's take a look at their odds and at what BetQL is projecting for Detroit this season.

The BetQL Model is projecting the Lions to win 6.3 games after finishing last season 3-13-1. The model also gives them a 10-percent chance to make the playoffs and a 3-percent chance to win the NFL North, which is a bit more realistic when you put the theater of Hard Knocks aside. Their win total is set at 6.5, which you can get over at -120 -- or under at +100 if you weren't fired up by Campbell's very vivid pep talk. Also, their odds to make the playoffs are at +400, while they are at -550 to miss the postseason.

If this team performs as well on the field as they have been in Hard Knocks so far, I'd expect their odds to certainly improve as the season gets going.
