Did The Colts Show The Rest Of The NFL How To Defend Patrick Mahomes?
They had success with one style of defense in particular
In Week 5, Patrick Mahomes struggled against man coverage and dominated zone coverage and the Chiefs managed just 13 points in a surprising home loss to the Colts.
Mahomes excelled vs the Colts defense when they played their usual zone coverage, but struggled facing their man coverage without his top 2 WR Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins.— NFL Research (@NFLResearch) October 7, 2019
Mahomes vs IND:
8-9, 115 yards, TD vs zone coverage (12.8 YPA)
12-28, 186 yards vs man coverage (6.6 YPA)
Indy’s game plan was designed to feature man coverage, which was a deviation from their usual scheme.
