Chiefs vs. Packers: Live Week 13 Odds

Kansas City Chiefs Week 13 Outlook

The Chiefs struggled early against the Raiders last week, with their usually reliable defense giving up a few touchdowns in the first half. Clearly, that did not sit well with them, and they almost pitched a shutout in the second half of the game by letting up just three points to Vegas. QB Patrick Mahomes and the offense got back into their groove against a pretty bad Raiders defense, and in the end, it really wasn't even close. Kansas City is now 8-3 on the season heading into this matchup with Green Bay, and once again looks like a serious Super Bowl contender.

The offense hasn't looked as dominant as they have been in previous seasons with Mahomes under center, but they still have been one of the better units in the league. They rank eighth in yards per play on offense, so still top 10 despite the perceptions about them. Subtly, perhaps what they have been best at is keeping Mahomes upright. The Chiefs have allowed the second-fewest sacks in the NFL, giving up just 1.3 per game on average. If they can keep the pressure off of their superstar QB, they will always be in the game.

As mentioned before, Kansas City actually has had a good defense this season, which is something Mahomes has not really had over his tenure there. They rank sixth in yards per play against, another top 10 number in that category on this side of the ball. They have also allowed the third-fewest first downs per game to their opponents, giving up just 17.4 each night.

Green Bay Packers Week 13 Outlook

Don't look now, but the Packers have won three of their last five games and are just a game below .500 heading into this weekend. Their impressive victory going into Detroit on Thanksgiving and upending the -7.5 favorite Lions has pushed them ever closer to getting back to even after a rough start to the year. QB Jordan Love looked comfortable in the pocket against Detroit, and the offense picked apart the secondary all afternoon. Head coach Matt Lafleur is not asking his young QB to do too much, which is their formula for success. The defense did their job and limited an explosive Lions attack to just 22 points at home, which is hard to do.

Green Bay's offense has been up and down this year, and a lot of that has to do with how good the defense is on the other side. They rank 13th in yards per play, so actually in the top half of the NFL, which you wouldn't expect after seeing some of their performances this season. Much like the Chiefs, the Packer's offensive line has done a good job keeping their QB upright, allowing the seventh-fewest sacks per game, and giving up just two on average. They have also been successful in a very important offensive stat, and that is third down conversion percentage, where they also rank seventh in the league.

On defense, they have also been up and down. They rank 14th in yards per play, so again, top half of the league in this category. However, they also have had their problems. Green Bay is really bad against opposing rushing attacks, ranking 27th in the league and allowing a whopping 135.2 yards on the ground on average. It's hard to be successful when you can't stop the run, and it's been a big issue for them all season.

Best Bet For Chiefs at Packers

Matt Horner: Lean Chiefs -6.5 (-109, BetRivers)

The public seems to be all over the Packers after their victory on the road in Detroit, as they are garnering 63% of the bets early on. I have not bet on this game quite yet, and want to see where the tickets/money go. However, as of right now, I'd lean the Chiefs at under a touchdown. I'll update my pick if I decide to make a bet on this one.
