Premium Betting Angles: Giants vs. 49ers Week 3

It hasn't been a pretty start to the season for the New York Giants. They were blanked 40-0 by the Cowboys in Week 1 and needed a massive second-half comeback to beat the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2. Sure, they got the win, and that's really all that matters, but they've raised a lot of question marks in the process. Meanwhile, the 49ers dismantled the Steelers, 30-7, to open the season and took care of the Rams, 30-23, in Week 2. San Francisco now hosts New York for its first home game of the season as a 10.5-point favorite. The 49ers are a much more talented team, but laying double-digits in the NFL isn't something that I do all that often. Let's take a look at a few angles that might help us find some value in this matchup.

Giant Issues for New York

After six quarters of play, the Giants finally realized there's an NFL season going on. New York went scoreless through a game and a half, but finally woke up at halftime against the Cardinals and rallied to put up 31 points in the second half to secure the win. If you're a Giants fan, there are two ways to look at New York's start to the season. The first is to say, sure, it took us a while to get going, but the offense is finally rolling after that second-half performance and we can build on that in Week 3 against the Niners. The other way to look at it is to say, we better not have a similar start on Saturday otherwise this game is going to be over before it even starts. As an unbiased party, I lean toward the latter of the two scenarios happening.

Putting together a solid half of football against one of the worst teams in the league shouldn't be something that Giants fans should see as a positive. They should have dominated Arizona from the start. Poor pass protection on New York's offensive line has been a major problem thus far and its run blocking isn't much better. Saquon Barkley finished with just 63 yards despite carrying the ball 17 times. He also suffered an injury late in the game that has him questionable for Thursday's game. If Barkley can't go, New York's offense is going to struggle to move the ball against the 49ers defense that ranks No. 5 in opponent yards per pass attempt (4.9).

The Giants have also struggled quite a bit defensively with two rookie cornerbacks that have been exposed against Dak Prescott and Josh Dobbs. And has anyone seen Kayvon Thibodeaux this season? He's been a non-factor through the first two games.

Can 49ers Keep This ATS Record Perfect?

49ers -10 (-110, BetMGM)

Considering how the 49ers have looked through the first two games of the season, a blowout-win for San Francisco is likely in the cards. Sure, the Niners' defense didn't look very good in the first half against the Rams, but it stepped up in the second half, not allowing L.A. to find the end zone. That happened because San Fran's front seven finally started getting some pressure on Matthew Stafford. With how weak I just mentioned that the Giants offensive line has been, Daniel Jones better get ready to see significant pressure on Thursday.

Offensively, San Fran has too many weapons for the Giants to try and slow down. The Niners lead the league with 5.6 rushing yards per attempt and ranks fifth with 7.9 passing yards per attempt. Christian McCaffrey has been a nightmare for opposing defenses, finishing with 20 carries for 116 yards in Week 2. The 49ers passing offense has been solid so far but has the ability to explode if Brock Purdy can get more accurate on some of his deep balls. However, Purdy has been great at taking care of the football with 153 passes since last being intercepted. As long as the Niners take care of the football and don't shoot themselves in the foot with costly penalties, I like them to win and cover as heavy favorites at home.

Plus, in the last two seasons, San Francisco is 7-0 ATS in home games after two or more straight wins. The Niners beat the Steelers and the Rams to win their last two. Can they move this trend to 8-0? I think so!
