Burdge: The Patriots Shouldn't Draft A QB At No. 3

Why the Patriots should draft WR Marvin Harrison Jr. and not a QB at No. 3

The NFL Draft is just over a week away and it can't get here fast enough.

Yes, I am getting mock draft fatigue as every possible scenario has been combed over and debated and we still have a long way to go until the first pick will be in. But when it comes to what the Patriots will do with their No. 3 pick in the team's most important draft of the Robert Kraft era, I have an idea.

There is speculation of course that they will take a QB and the top candidates to go at No. 3 are Drake Maye at -145, J.J. McCarthy at +210 and Jayden Daniels at +275.

However, I don't think this team should take a quarterback. They shouldn't take the chance on developing a rookie quarterback again and the last thing they need is another Mac Jones situation on their hands.

As I said on Back to the Futures on Sunday night, what I think they should do is take WR Marvin Harrison Jr. (+2000 to be the No. 3 pick on BetMGM) and have Jacoby Brissett start until...

Tom Brady returns to the NFL and plays for the Patriots.

Brady recently said he is "not opposed" to an NFL return if a team called, and the Patriots do need some help at QB. Who better to step into this role??

I think Brady is miserable in retirement. He misses football, he misses competing, he sees Patrick Mahomes gaining on him as the GOAT and he wants back in. He knows he can still play and he has even improved on his 40-yard time since the 2000 Combine. He also looks healthier now than he did then.

Sometimes he jokes about coming back to football, but he sounded serious this time. If the Patriots called, with Belichick gone and the team in need of some good PR, I'm sure Brady would be all-in on a return.

All of that is to say, I think the Patriots should draft Harrison Jr. and be open to welcoming Brady at quarterback this season.
