Betting Odds for the Next Jets Head Coach

Breaking down the potential candidates and odds for who might lead the New York Jets in 2025.

After firing Robert Saleh and turning things over to Jeff Ulbrich, this has been a disaster of a season for the Jets, who have been a laughingstock in recent years after essentially turning the franchise over to Aaron Rodgers. That strategy didn’t work out and the team is expected to move on from him in the offseason.

Owner Woody Johnson, who reportedly evaluated players based on Madden ratings, probably won’t make the right decision regarding his next head coach, but it’s been leaked that Ron Rivera and Rex Ryan will likely get interviews.

Here is how I’d break down the odds for potential head coaching candidates:

Mike Vrabel (Former Titans HC): +500

Pete Carroll (Former Seahawks HC): +750

Ron Rivera (Former Commanders HC): +800

Rex Ryan (Former Jets HC): +1000

Steve Spagnuolo (Chiefs DC): +1500

Matt Nagy (Chiefs OC): +1800

Vance Joseph (Broncos DC): +2500

Ben Johnson (Lions OC): +3000

Todd Monken (Ravens OC): +4000

Joe Brady (Bills OC): +4000

Kellen Moore (Eagles OC): +4000

Aaron Glenn (Lions DC): +4500

Brian Flores (Vikings DC): +5000

Arthur Smith (Steelers OC): +5000

Kliff Kingsbury (Commanders OC): +5000

Jeff Ulbrich (Interim Jets HC): +10000

Right now, I’d give Mike Vrabel the edge. As a proven leader, he’s young, he’s a leader of men and he has multiple years of head coaching experience. I’d also give former Super Bowl winner Pete Carroll a solid chance of getting the job if he interviews. Rivera and Ryan both have many years of NFL head coaching experience under their belts and I think those four guys have an edge over the field. Remember that Saleh was a first-time head coach and that experiment didn’t work out as expected.

If New York opts to go the former HC-turned-coordinator route, there will be some awesome options available, most notably Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo, Chiefs OC Matt Nagy, Broncos DC Vance Joseph, Vikings DC Brian Flores, Steelers OC Arthur Smith, Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury and current interim HC Jeff Ulbrich. Other coordinator options with no head coaching experience that currently have buzz include: Lions OC Ben Johnson, Ravens OC Todd Monken, Bills OC Joe Brady, Eagles OC Kellen Moore and Lions DC Aaron Glenn. However, I don't anticipate the Jets hiring one of these guys.

It remains to be seen how everything plays out, but this will be an extremely important move for a franchise with one Super Bowl win since 1960.
