Premium Betting Angles: Florida State vs. Clemson

Week 4 of college football features an ACC showdown in Death Valley between Florida State (3-0) and Clemson (2-1). Florida State has been one of the best teams in the nation, ranking No. 3 heading into the weekend. Meanwhile, Clemson dropped its season opener to Duke but has bounced back with big wins over Charleston Southern (66-17) and FAU (48-14). The Seminoles' biggest win of the year came in Week 1, beating LSU (45-24), but they're coming off a narrow win over Boston College (31-29) after blowing a big second-half lead.

Despite Clemson not being ranked, this is one of the biggest matchups of the weekend. The current betting line for this matchup stands at FSU -2.5, with an over/under set anywhere from 55.5 to 56.5 points depending on the book. Will the Seminoles get their first win over the Tigers since 2014?

This Clemson Trend Give the Tigers Hope

Under Dabo Swinney, Clemson has gone 36-9 SU versus poor punt return teams that average fewer than 7.5 yards per return. With Florida State only averaging 3.4 yards per punt return, this trend is active for this game.

The Tigers haven't looked like the same dominant team that ruled college football from 2015-2019, so they need to take advantage of the small things, which includes special teams play.

FSU punt returner Keon Coleman's longest return was for 19 yards, which came in the fourth quarter against Southern Miss. Other than that, FSU doesn't have any other double-digit returns. If Clemson's Aidan Swanson can pin the Seminoles deep in their own backfield, that's going create a long field for Jordan Travis, especially considering he suffered a shoulder injury in Week 3 and could be coming into this game less than 100%.

Back The Tigers Against The Spread

Clemson +2.5

The Seminoles have been the better team through the first three weeks of the season and have the more talented quarterback. But Clemson is at home and playing in Death Valley is never an easy task for the road team. Plus, the Tigers have owned FSU over the last decade, winning every matchup since 2015. Pair that with the BetQL five-star trend mentioned above and I'll take the points with the home team.
