Through four games, Tennessee is scoring 48.5 points per game and gaining 559.3 yards per game. They have averaged 365.8 through the air and 193.5 on the ground. Yeah, this is a very explosive, high-scoring offense. The defense has been great as well, averaging 19 points against and 407.0 yards allowed per game (309.3 passing and 97.8 rushing).
Last week Tennessee was off, but in their last game, they beat No. 20 Florida in a thriller. Hendon Hooker, a popular bet to win the Heisman, went 22-for-28 for 349 yards, two touchdowns, zero interceptions, and added 112 yards and one touchdown on the ground. The guy is a total beast. Tennessee ran the ball 42 times for 227 yards, a 5.4 average, and three touchdowns in the win as well.
I really like this team in 2022, and while they aren't better than fellow SEC heavyweights Alabama and Georgia, they are a very close third in my opinion right now.
After five games, LSU is scoring 35.6 points per game and are gaining 443.6 yards per game, 247.6 through the air, and 196.0 on the ground. Defensively, the Tigers are averaging just 14.8 points against, 293.8 yards allowed, 184.6 passing and 109.2 rushing.
No one can deny how well they have played, and how disciplined they are compared to what they have been. Last week, LSU visited Auburn and left with an important, 21-17, win. Auburn scored the game’s first 17 points, leading 17-0 midway through the second quarter, but LSU woke up and made it a 17-14 game at the half. They scored the only seven points in the second half to walk away with the big road win, and that shows just how resilient this team is.
I am going with Tennessee -3 in this game because they are the much better team overall, and they have the better QB as well. This just feels like one of those seasons for Tennessee where they win most of their games and have a huge upset incoming, possibly over Alabama or Georgia. They are better than LSU, and this line is short for me.
