Oklahoma at Nebraska Prediction for Week 3

Oklahoma is an interesting team that is starting over in its own way after head coach Lincoln Riley decided to split for Southern California. Don't get me wrong, this is still an extremely talented team that is going to win a lot of games this year, regardless of who is coaching them. I'll be quite honest though, I was very disappointed by their performance against Kent State last week. In the second quarter, they were actually down 3-0 to the Golden Flashes at home. That simply cannot happen if you want people to take you seriously.

The game should have been over in a couple of drives with how bad Kent State's defense is, but the Sooners could find no success until the second half. A 33-3 victory is actually not as impressive as it should have been. I expected this game to finish with a score more around the range of 52-10 but was ultimately disappointed.

Now they will get a Nebraska team fresh off of firing head coach Scott Frost. That could embolden the Cornhuskers, and Oklahoma really has to be careful here. A trend to note: Oklahoma is 12-3 ATS vs. good passing teams with a completion pct. of 58% or better over the last three years.

Nebraska Cornhuskers

Now that Frost is out of the way, this team can really start its rebuild. Nebraska used to be the Alabama of college football many moons ago, but has been stuck in the mud for far too long. This season was supposed to be one of rejuvenation and hope, a bar had been set and the Cornhuskers had to reach it. After starting off the season 1-2 with both losses coming to teams they should have easily defeated, Frost has been kicked to the curb for his failures.

With his departure comes new hope. The team should be hyped and ready to go with a new coach calling the shots, and they should be emboldened to perform for him. Let's also not forget how well QB Casey Thompson performed last year against Oklahoma on the road, throwing for five touchdowns in the Red River Rivalry.

My Prediction

I'll take the Cornhuskers at a very high line of +13.5. I really do think that Frost was a huge part of their problems, and the team can play up to their potential with him gone. They will be looking to make a statement at home that they aren't the pushovers Frost had made them out to be, while Oklahoma continues to get a feel for themselves and the team they will ultimately become in 2022.
